I've wanted to brew my own for a few years now.  Having done this one time maybe 25 years ago, I ruined everything due to I don't really know why.

I recommend you go to your local homebrew shop and they'll set you up with the equipment you need. Start with extract brews, many places often sell "beer kits" where they contain all the ingredients you need to get started.

Expect to spend about $150 ish on equipment to get started but beware - one of my friends now has over $10,000 invested in his garage brewery. He makes killer beer though.

I also made a tap board for parties and the like, first use was at the rehearsal dinner before my wife's and my wedding

I built a similar collapsible foam chest for fermenting. I use a reptile heating bulb element in a small lamp for control. It folds flat for easy storage.

Professionally? or as a home brewer?
I started as a homebrewer with every intention of becoming a professional brewer.  I brewed twice a week for about a year on my home system.  When I opened up I had a 2.5bbl PsychBrew two vessel system.  It was no better than my homebrew rig, just bigger.  After 2 years of brewing 7-9 days a week I bought a 10bbl ABE system.  It's made life much easier and now we only brew 2-3 times a week.  I don't do test batches.  I just try and make sure my recipes are solid and swing for the fences.  Usually works but I have dumped a couple batches.  More often than not it's a fermentation problem, but I did fuck up two batches of a banana bread brown ale.  I was trying to get banana flavor from stressing the yeast.  I was stressing it too much and it was shit.  I'm never trying to brew that beer again.

Haven't brewed in too long...   mostly because of grain prices and dead chest freezer used for fermenting.  Might start again some day.  Pics from the old days.

Thanks....  And you won't regret going to steel.

I welded that thing up some 24 years ago.  It's held up well.  Added the March pump about 12 years ago.  It's not automated at all, which turns some people off.  But I'm OK with that.  I crept pretty close to the 200 gallon limit a couple of times making beer for windsurfing races.  I've got 16 cornies, 3 7-gal primaries and 9(?) 5-gal secondaries.   Then there's all the leftovers from when I was making 5 gallon batches.   I started brewing in '94.

If I was living out in East BF, I'd probably start brewing again.  But when you live 4 miles from a Flying Saucer and 20 minutes from a Total Wine, it's tough to find that motivation.

Here's an oldie but goodie airlock from when my father was making wine...
