A neighbor found this good boy roaming a nearby neighborhood. We're actively looking for the owners but I'm prepared to keep him if they aren't found. Seems only a couple months old and very thin.

Looks like a full-blooded GSD to me but I'm no expert. Your thoughts?

It's the dog from Heat.

Shorter fur than most gsd puppies

kinda into the awkward teenage ear size though

could have some belgian malinois in the mix

Damn good looking dog. Soft intelligent eyes. If you can't find the owner, and don't keep him, I'll come and get him.

Somebody posted in GD a few weeks back about the uptick in requests for Mals after that Channing Tatum movie came out. I wouldn't be surprised if one got away from an unprepared new owner. Or they just let him wander off because they didn't realize how much work they are.

Do an Embark Breed + Health DNA test.

You'd be surprised. That could very well be a purebred GSD. Head is too wide for a Mal. That is a GSD, and young enough that he hasn't hasn't had his 1st color change yet. GSDs will typically change coloration a few times in the first 2 years.

That is a good looking pup regardless of the breed he turns out to be. I would make some one describe him and prove he was theirs before just handing him to a stranger.

We won't be too vigilant looking for the previous owner, this was attached to his collar when we found him, plus he was skin & bones.

He's adjusting well.

I did the Embark DNA test on my dogs (both mutts), good way to figure out what he is plus will give you info on potential health issues if you are curious. Good looking pup!

Some idiot tied him up and didn't realize that nylon can be chewed through very quickly.

I'll assume you've let Animal Control know you got him, and checked your local/county "lost pet" Facebook groups to see if anyone is missing him as well.

Do the suggested DNA test to confirm what he is. But damn sure looks like a Maligator to me. I have 2 of the little loveable demons. If you are going to keep him. Just make sure you know what you're in for training wise and what to expect. They can be challenging to say the least.

Whelp I'm no vet. "Buddy" is a girl. So the Mrs stopped for an appropriate collar on their way home. Otherwise the Mal formerly known as Buddy is healthy. 18 lbs and the vet estimates 12-weeks old.

Naw, she's not broken. She's just getting her second wind to wear you out some more. I'm glad it worked out for you to keep her, sounds like she has tricked her way into a good home.

She's only recharging. One added benefit to a Mal is you'll never need a weedeater again. They will wear out the grass on the perimeter

This!

Two of our dog's trainers have Belgians. Gorgeous dogs and VERY smart. Need a lot of training, though.

Week one and she's quite a handful. We've had to "puppy proof" our house. Nothing is safe from her shark mouth. About three times a day she gets an adrenaline dump and goes wild. She is very smart and pretends to not understand the word "no."

On the other hand, she's gorgeous and athletic and always underfoot. Clearly Mrs Diggerwolf is her favorite and Bella follows my wife everywhere. She eats a lot but she was very skinny and growing fast so we feed her a lot.

Awww she’s so beautiful!   GSD’s are a handful for about the first 2 years, after that they truly are the best dogs ever!

We do Bark box “super chewers” for our 3 GSD’s and they are the only toys that keep up to them…plus they love the treats!

Thanks! We're now fairly certain she's a Belgian Malinois, maybe 100%. Signed up for a six-month subscription with Bark Box!

As someone who deals with both breeds, and has been breeding for 12 years....  She is a WL GSD, of likely Czech bloodlines.

How’s the little Maligator doing?

Bella is growing and learning fast. She's learning from her new pack. Fleas, ticks, and worms all gone. She's actually more chill than I expected. She discovered swimming and loves our pond. Her fur is getting darker. I'm beginning to think she's a GSD like others have suggested but we haven't done the Embark yet. Thanks for asking!

This was interesting:

ETA: she has the longest tail I've ever seen on a dog!
