What is this polish you speak of. I have been playing my strat now for 9 years giging on average twice a month with it in Indiana and my little slice of OH here. It has never had polish on it and it still looks great. I wipe it down with a soft rag and put it back in the case.

I'm no expert on Guitar Polish.  But I use Gibson guitar polish.  They guy as Guitar Center(who I know, knows his shit) said it's great and what they use in store.

I know most GC employees are dunces but this dude has been doing music all his life.  Whenever possible I deal with him when I'm there.

I use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze polish and Final Finish spray. Works fast, looks nice, smells good, use it on the car, too (same paint basically). I used this on a filthy old 1958 Les Paul Special and it came out fantastic. Took a pic but it doesn't really show the shine. I use my Porter Cable RO buffer with small super-fine pad, and a rag around the tight spots. Usually you won't need to polish very often, couple years maybe, unless you sweat a lot like me and spill beer on it once in a while.

I don't go for the flawless flamed maple stuff.  I came to work.

I've been using Gibson polish for many years with no problems. I actually buy their kit that comes with string cleaner, fret board conditioner and guitar polish.

It's about $6 at Guitar Center for the kit:

Serious question.. Are you all using the polish to maintain value?  Or a nicer look because that's what you prefer?

Not meaning to derail the thread, but when my last day playing comes I want my guitars to look like they've been a lot.  Totally fine with wanting your guitar to look nice... Just wondering if there was another reason to use it I don't know about.

I hate grime on the neck.

And a guitar that looks well-used is different than a guitar that looks filthy.

That's fair enough.. I don't play gigs, and I might think differently if I regularly sweated all over my guitars or had stuff spilled on them.

Although, Mike Campbell's tech said that he would be fired if he touched any of the dirt and crap on the fretboards of Mike's guitars

Outside of Ernie Ball wonder wipes, I don't think I've ever polished one of mine...
