It's been a while so I popped in the DVD tonight.  I loved this film when I was a kid.  One of the best Cold War films IMO.

Still a good movie. One of several Allistair Mcclain (sp?) books to become a decent movie.

Others include; Where Eagles Dare, Guns of Navarrone, Force 10 from Navarrone, Breakheat Pass.

All enjoyable movies.

I.S.Z. is good, because of the cold war aspect, and the early spie birds did use film canisters that had to be recovered.

Didn't Howard Hughes watch Ice Station over and over for hours on end after he became a recluse and lost it?

Apparently it was his favorite movie.
