Ok, for the sake of discussion we will shelve the topic of why there is even a "black film" category as there is not one for white films. It is a correct assumption but "black film" remains a valid genre.

And in the category of usually low budget poorly thought out films like Dolemite, Beat Street or whatever rap pangster glorification flick came out last week every so often a genuinely decent film such as "Cooley High" (1975) or "Undercover Brother" (2002) emerges.

But probably my favorite black film is "Dead Presidents" (1995)

A pretty decent war movie in it's own right but that is only part of the story. Most won't agree with all the themes nor care for some of the characters but most will enjoy the movie itself. And the soundtrack is simply amazing. Quite a break from the usual "hot this week" rapcrastic shit that usually is found.

So which one is your favorite?

+1 on Dead Presidents. Good heist flick and a good war flick. The soundtrack is awesome as well.

Anything from the Hughes Brothers or John Singleton is generally good. Boyz in the Hood and Menace To Society were revolutionary films in their own right. The Shaft remake, Baby Boy, Poetic Justice, and especially Four Brothers are good as well.

HILLARIOUS movie.

And even good messages on some level for the 'chillren

I can still remember doubling over with laughter when the father has Craig come into the shitter and they've got this AWFUL "ploop" sound effect for every time a stink stick went downrange.

"Boy! Get ya ass on in here!   I smelt yo shit for 22 years, you can smell mine fo five minutes."

My favorite would be ........Devil in a blue dress. I don't really think of it as a "black movie" but most of the key charcters are black. I love the charcter Mouse Alexander in the film.

Mouse: You said don't shoot him, right? Well I didn't; I strangled him. If you didn't want me to kill him, why did you leave me alone with him?

"Dead Presidents" is an excellent film, but I'll also have to chime in for Joe Morton in "Brother from Another Planet" and "Basquait".  Two very good movies, and in "Basquait" watch for the everly-liscious Claire Forlani and, in some really weird casting, David Bowie as Andy Warhol.
