I've passed on this movie every time I saw it in the rental store, because it looked like a western and I generally dont like westerns.  But it's pretty good.  John Cusack is a horse trader in Wyoming territory, who disagrees with a large landowner/rancher over statehood.  The rancher is against it because it would mean the end of him running the area like it's his own fief.  A small disagreement and personal slight escalates into the rancher basically wrecking two of John Cusack's horses and refusing to compensate him for it.  The local court is in the rancher's pockets, so John Cusack has to get justice on his own.
