a bit before my time, but I stumbled upon this gem last night
and decided to go 'all-in'.. I just bought 3 blurays


(this is high level overview...)

It was the 50's, Movies were losing ground to TV
they had to do something

Color had been around for almost 20 years (~)
they needed to bring back viewers.


behold Cinerama.

3 cameras recording a panoramic area and projected just the same on the big screen




they restored a handful of original movies, they did fairly well, but you can see some of the issues where the images overlap

I hope this is as good as I want to think it is, I love the old school color (reminds me of Kodachrome)

This is the one that oddly enough, sparked my interest, as I was exploring the history of Technicolor

The more I look at this, there were quite a number of movies made in Cinerama.
I'm thankful there are people (~) trying to save what they can

their efforts will also help further down the road, when technology can do their magic of the time to make it all even better.

I've watched all 3 of the rescued movies I have

- South Seas Adventure
- Seven Wonders of the World
- Wind Jammer

not bad, considering the age and work involved to get them where they are now.
Would have LOVED to see these on the big screen back in the day (in their original splendor)

The innocence, untainted or exploited beauty of the world at the time (even though it was in the middle
of the Cold war at it's height and fresh out of the Korean War).
I love that vintage color too.

The discs usually have a lot of extra content, which is pretty cool, often 'how' it was rescued as well as original trailers.

The sad part is, they're pricey to get hold of.... but I'll get more.
