I saw a movie that was basically a sequel to Quigley, Down Under but cannot remember the name of it.  Can any of you help me with that?  I'd like to watch it again.

I just watched Quigley last night.  There's no known sequel, but there might be a movie similar to it.

Can you remember any details of the movie you're thinking about?

Was Tom Selleck in it?

Yes, Tom Selleck was the star.

He meets another man, perhaps they're partners, but the guy dies while they are traveling aboard a ship.  He makes a promise and sets out to fulfill it.  He travels to the man's home town and meets up with his widow.  He helps re-establish the man's ranch so the wife can make a go of it.  The conflict comes because of someone's attempts to "steal the ranch" from the woman (force her to sell).

That was on the other day. It's not a sequel. Tom Selleck made several western movies.
Sorry, I can't remember the name of it right now.

According to this:

You might be thinking of Last Stand at Saber River.

Gee, those details would of been useful in the first post...

I haven't seen it, but looks like its Crossfire Trail.

The director, Simon Wincer, also directed Quigley Down Under...

The thing was, it took me a while to remember the plot line and why I liked it so much.  Cross Fire Trail, it is.  it's in my Netflix cue as of now.

P.S. - they are actually making a Quigley sequel now, but knowing that just came as a side benefit of this thread.

Thanks, guys.

He also directed Lonesome Dove.  I think he knows what he is doing.

A quigley sequel will cost me whatever a new Sharps gos for, and I can't afford that.

I don't think that this is what everyone has in mind.

I know the movie you are talking. I have not seen it in awhile.  Didn't the Japanese, end up like bombing the harbor towards the end of the movie?

That sounds like a Louis L'Amour book.

Selleck made three westerns for TNT,  Monte Walsh, Last stand at Saber River, and Crossfire Trail.
All three are very good movies.

Charlie:  "What is it that man said about death ?"

Covington:  "That 'it's a poor thing to fear the inevitable'."

Charlie:  "Who said that ?"

Covington:  "Someone who wasn't dyin'.  "

Crossfire Trail isn't in any way shape or form a sequel to Quigley.  Based on the book of the same name by Louis L'amour.  Great movie.  Available at Wal-Mart in a three-pack along with Last Stand at Sabre River and Monte Walsh.
