Thinking of down sizing from a 99 burban. Saw one with an ECamper top on it today and thought it looked neat.

Should I FO on the awd? Can you get awd and a manual tranny?

I had the AWD auto one.  Got caught up in the ignition problem.  After three attempts at the dealership I traded it at 37,000 miles.  I now drive a 99 suburban( I shit you not)

What's up with the ignition?

I drove on from the top of maine to Tampa Florida over 3 days

I think it had a 1.8 engine or some such ridiculously small 4 banger, coupled to a 5 speed manual.

Running at 80 MPH on the highway had the engine revved up pretty good

I can't say anything bad about it. It wasn't exciting to drive, I didn't particularly care for the interior layout.

The doors and the cargo space was pretty impressive for a non work truck, but other than that, it's not my cup of tea.

Upgrade to an 03-06 Tahoe / Yukon.  Coming from a 99 Burb you'll be much happier.

I'm pretty happy with my 99.

5.7>5.3

Plus it has leaf springs in the back, you know, like a truck.

I agree I own both a 96 and a 06.

If you wanted leaf springs get a 03-06 2500 Sub or Yukon XL and you also get the 6.0L ;)

My point was more don't replace your Sub with anything else but a GM full size otherwise you're gonna be let down.  FYI reason I say 03-06 vs 00-06 is 03-06 is the better of them due to small upgrades.

The car sometimes would not recognize the key and the computer will lock itself down (anti theft).  Only the dealership can unlock it.  The dealership would just unlock it instead of fixing it.   Its quite common in the elements.

They need another gear in the trans in the worst way!

The big downside of the Element is a quite low weight carrying ability if you plan to tow a trailer or haul a couple friends with camping gear etc.
