I posted this over on the Civic forums too. Did some searching and couldn't find a good match to my problem.
Ok I'm running a 2000 Civic HX manual with about 187000 miles. It has
had good routine maintenance and I just had the belts/water pump change
at 180ish.
For the last couple weeks I had been having a problem when cruising at a
steady 2500 RPM in 3rd gear I could feel a miss and the CEL would flash
for a few seconds. As soon as I accelerated it would go away. It does
not seem to occur when driving at faster speeds in the same RPM range.
I have used HEET and injector cleaner but the symptoms have not improved. I installed new plugs and wires about 12000 miles ago.
I used the jumper trick and counted the flashes on the CEL.
I think I have the correct translations.
12 - EGR - exhaust gas recirculation lift valve
71 - random misfire cylinder 1
72 - random misfire cylinder 2
73 - random misfire cylinder 3
74 - random misfire cylinder 4
80 - EGR Valve/Line
I guess the question is - Can the EGR cause the misfires? The car
doesn't seem to have degraded mileage but I don't want to destroy it.
I found a Duralast EGR for pretty cheap and it looks like an easy install.
Here is what I found
