This is a friend of my uncle's who is writing a play. He is interested in hearing from the families of deployed military members.
In his own words....
"I'm a poet and playwright, and below is a description of
my current project.
About the project: I'm in the first stages of development, but I have
a few guiding ideas, and know what I want to accomplish. I'd like to
make a play based on conversations with the families of soldiers
currently deployed in combat zones in the Middle East. I would interview
husbands, wives, children, parents of soldiers, etc., recording the
conversations. I would then cut and paste, shaping those interviews/words into
a hopefully coherent and compelling piece of theatre, changing what I
needed to change for the sake of structure and artistic force. I will
try my best to represent the truth of what I am told, but I can't promise
to quote anyone verbatim (though I will at some points do just that).
The voices in the play will be anonymous; this will be a work of
fiction, which I will send out into the world under my name alone. --And I
will take whatever criticism the work may receive as pointed at me alone.
My hope and goal is to tell a story/stories on the stage which e ngage
the
audience in the lives of a largely invisible, but important, segment
of the populations: those who keep the home fires burning for the men
and women who fight in our name. Though, as I told you, I am sympathetic
to the military, I do not go into this with a desire to repress any
point of view. I believe in the military, and its current mission. But I
am well aware of the intricate complexity and variation that makes
humans interesting-I would want those variations and complications in the
play.
What I need from friends and those sympathetic to my idea are the
contacts and the go ahead to talk to some of the people that fall into the
categories outlined above. I could interview on the phone, or through
email, or in person. If family members would prefer to begin by calling
me and talking for a while to see if they can be comfortable taking
part in the project, I would welcome their calls (or emails), and there
would be no hard feelings if they decided it was not for them. "
If you are interested, please post in this thread how he can contact you. I will encourage him to become a member of arfcom as well.
Thank you for your service,
