I am here now from FL.  I heard that my CCW is suddenly not honored

I already did some research, but things are a little unclear.  I've been to USACarry.com, handgunlaw.us, & NRA-ILA & Gun Owners of Nevada.com.

I am mostly wondering about vehicle carry & open carry.  Was going to go out to red rock canyon and hike around a bit & was also going to go for a drive out into the desert one night.  Might like to open carry at Red Rock & keep the gun in the passenger comppartment during the drive into the desert.

I guess proper open carry w/ a fully exposed firearm is legal, except perhaps if it has been banned by a city???  THe state prempption doesn't cover that???

Red Rock, E of Vegas is a State Park right, so I should be able to carry there fine right?

As for carrying in the vehicle, I guess you can't have it "on your person" or under your seat, as would be prohibited by Concealed weappons law, but what about glovebox carry?

Any helpp w/ links would be apppreciated.

Thanks

BTW, I saw that post about how Alladins & Stratosphere are anti carry, so fuck them I guess.

Rightwingnut, you’ll need to consult official sources such as LV Metro PD, the NV State Website etc. as  I’m not a lawyer, cop, or CCW instructor. That said though, here’s some basic rules of the road here as I know them (others, please correct me if I’m wrong):

State, County, City Parks: No Firearms
Any .gov facility with a metal detector:  No Firearms

Open Carry:  Legal most places (other than places such as the above I already mentioned).  In addition I DO NOT recommend you open carry on the strip or inside of any casino, you’re asking for trouble.

Auto:  If you don’t have a valid CCW for here then it cannot be concealed i.e. it cannot be in the glove box, hidden under items, and I presume under the seat would be concealed = no go.   Also, VERY important:  You better know where the North Las Vegas City limits are as they have jacked up laws regarding weapons inside of vehicles.

Info pulled directly off from Metro’s website:LINK
Prohibited Locations
•A permit holder must NOT carry a concealed firearm into:
•Any facility of a law enforcement agency.
•A prison, city or county jail, or detention facility.
•A courthouse or courtroom.
•A public airport and/or a public building that is located on the property of a public airport.
•A public building that has a metal detector at each public entrance.
•A public building that has a sign posted at each public entrance indicating that no firearms are allowed in the building.
•Any facility of a public or private school without written permission.
•Any facility of a vocational/technical school, or the University of Nevada, or Community College System without written permission.
•Any other building owned or occupied by the Federal Government, the state, or local government.
•Any other place where carrying a concealed firearm is prohibited by state or federal law

Also, MANY OF YOUR QUESTIONS ARE ADDRESSED IN THE TACKED THREAD  ABOVE

Almost all, if not all casinos here are not gun-friendly, at least in most ARCOM definitions.  They have their reasons.  For those of us with valid NV CCWs casino firearm rules are basically something that gets blown off.  Concealed is concealed and the most you could have legally happen is get cited for trespassing (if you refused to leave).

Buy a gun in Nevada.  I believe I read that the background check is open 7 days a week.  Googled as much as I could to find out.  I'm usually out of town during the week so Saturdays are going to become the days I can use to buy a gun for the next few months.

Wow, I can't believe Joe let this one slide.

A handgun can be loaded and concealed ANYWHERE in a vehicle, excluding your person. The weapon cannot be carried in any item that conceals the weapon, while the item you are carrying is on your person (think backpack).

As for city and county parks, there is a problem with the laws considering the pre-emption statute. The county is supposed to stop enforcing it, pending a review from the AGs office.

As for Red Rock, that is BLM land and the fed laws control that part. Each part has their own set of rules and you can look it up at their website.

You are correct. I did let this one slide.

I didn't have the time to respond the way I wanted to respond the OP's post, because I was chatting with my Marine Corps nephew who is serving in the Sandbox. He only has limited Internet, and we try to make the best of our Internet time together.

You covered my six on this one, RDP.

On the other hand, when I responded to yolop's post about purchasing a gun, all I saw was an American Flag under his avatar, and usually when there is just a flag it means Kommiefornia. Is yolop a Nevada resident, or a Kommiefornian asking questions?

Be Safe.

Joe

ETA: Thanks again for the CY6 RDP

Reno, NV.  I've just never bought a gun or gone to the gun store on a weekend.  I beleve when I bought my first firearm from Sportsman's in Reno they told me I couldn't buy it past 5 or on weekends.  Maybe it was just past five.

If I was a Kommifornia resident I woulnd't be able to buy a gun from a dealer.  I had one transfered in to Mark at USFA this week and I just wanted to know if I'd be able to pick it up today or not.  Didn't know which day I'd be back in Reno so I thought I'd ask a question about the gun laws here instead of starting a whole new thread.

Thanks for the correction.  I just can't get some of that years & years of living under NLV draconian rule out of my brain.

Found this link.  Says it can be done 7 days a week just by calling 684-6200 in Reno/Sparks area.  I guess that answers my question unless someone knows something different.  I'm really excited to pick this gun up and head to the range.

Actually I wish I had my barrel so I could ask about him tightening my upper for me so I can finish my build.

So does/can N las vegas make carrying in glove box illegal or not?  Bu tthe rest of the state should be okay.  THey have that same type of crap in FL where it can be carried in vehicle as long as it is not on your person, except that there are precedents prosecuting  peopple who had gun under their seat as being on their person.  Which is retarded b/c it is probably quicker to get it out of your glove box & shoot a traffic copp that to get it from you glove box.  I mean, have you ever seen Fargo?
