Some good websites to visit before getting reservations are...
www.lasvegas.com www.vegas.com They have photos of the hotel properties and maps of the Las Vegas Strip. Some hotel websites... Mandalay Bay www.mandalaybay.com/home.jsp Luxor www.luxor.com/index-flash.php3 New York New York www.nynyhotelcasino.com Monte Carlo www.monte-carlo.com Flamingo Hilton www.flamingolv.com MGM Grand www.mgmgrand.com/lv/pages/index_home.asp Caesars Palace, Paris, Bally's, Las Vegas Hilton and the Flamingo Hilton http://www.parkplace.com/default.aspx?ContentID=2 The Mirage www.themirage.com/ Treasure Island www.treasureisland.com/ Bellagio www.bellagiolasvegas.com/ Mirage, Bellagio, Treasure Island, New York New York, MGM, Golden Nugget (Downtown) are all owned by MGM/Mirage Resorts www.mgmmirage.com/ Any of the above hotels are for the most part first class, the Bellagio is actually one of the top ten hotels in the world and commands a high price for rooms, but worth it I'm told. All of the above hotels are on the south end of Las Vegas Blvd. (The Strip) and most are within walking distance of each other, these are huge properties so it does take a while going from hotel to hotel, LOTS of walking. Look at the maps at the links above to see where the hotels sit on The Strip in relation to each other. For DOWNTOWN hotels I'll offer the following: Main Street Station They have the 777 Brewery, for beer lovers it doesn't get much better, they have 3 favorites and a special of the month. The food is excellent and prices are low. Main Street Station has many antiques in it and in fact has a large piece of the Berlin Wall for a urinal in the mens room. www.mainstreetcasino.com/ Just a short walk from Main Street Station Hotel is the Fremont Street Experience, it is worth seeing at night, there are light shows every hour on the hour. The street has a canopy of lights coving it for a few blocks, it is something you have never seen before when the show comes on. www.vegasexperience.com/ Downtown Vegas is kind of like Vegas was in the 50's and 60's, old and a bit rough. Be careful when walking anywhere outside of the Fremont Street Experience, keep an eye open for trouble. LVMPD keeps bike officers patroling the Experience so it's totally safe there. While on Fremont Street another nice hotel is the Golden Nugget www.goldennugget.com/ [red]Places that ARE NOT friendly to gun owners in Las Vegas are...[/red] Aladdin Hotel and Casino Here's the thread.. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=151363&w=searchPop Stratosphere Hotel and Casino They have "No Concealed Weapons" signs all over the property, I am in process of dealing with the VP over this to have them take the signs down. I will report what happens. |

Out of town places to visit...
Rachel Nevada also known as the town closest to Area 51, it is about a 2 hour drive from Vegas, a great half day trip. The circular restaurant on the 2nd story of the Plaza is great on a Friday night. Place is hopping and it seems most of the waiters are older Italian guys. Real atmosphere. Plus they have/had $1.00 16 oz beers in front while a band plays. This is on one end of the Fremont Experience. It is a very interesting place.
I haven't heard of the Station. We will be the the last week in April. We go once a year and always have a great time. Are there other places like Red Rock Canyon? We have done Hoover Dam and the paddle wheel boat twice. I also noticed that Front Sight has stopped doing free classes. [:(] Thanks for the info, Bob |

If you are looking for something a little different, check out Area 51, the Extraterrestrial Highway and the Little A'Le'Inn in Rachel, NV. About two hours north of Las Vegas. Great area for camping, hiking, 4-wheeling and of course for searching the night skies for that "mothership". These links have more info and directions:

What about flying into Clark County? I have alweays felt a little weird bringing my pistol in my luggage. The impression I got was that I must register my firearm to have it in Las Vegas? I know CCDW is out of the question, I just want it for peace of mind in our room.

Check the website www.lvmpd.com for more info or email and ask them for your piece of mind. I'd also print the response and keep it in my luggage while on vacation. Bob |

Sure, I'll see what I can dig up. Its really some pretty country up there (if you like the desert). Lots of old mines and ghost settlements up there. Check out the Nearby Places section of our Rachel page:
rachel.dreamlandresort.com Rachel Day on May 10 is a good time to visit. They have a parade, crafts fair and live music. |

What's the story with Gun Rentals in Las Vegas? I am eventually going to meet some Commiefornia friends out there for a weekend and they are interested in learning to shoot a little. Any suggestions about where to go? Also I think there are some Full-Auto rentals there. Which ones would you suggest and which should be avoided and why?
I can bring a pistol into NV just no concealed carry and not loaded in a car, right? I probably would not bother, but am curious. Sometime we gotta get a shoot for out of staters going in that area. I would think with the low airfare and what I assume are gun friendly laws it'd be great place to go sometime next winter. |

Good info Wolfpack,
I always stay at the Flamingo Hilton, The rooms are cheap and nice and it is in a really good location, center strip. www.flamingolv.com I go to vegas 4 or 5 times a year. Ill be there in march. Thanks MB...I added it to the websites at the top! |

Aimless, you can have a loaded gun in your car, just not in the city of North Las Vegas or Boulder City...Las Vegas is ok with it. Nevada is a great state for gun rights, the only thing that restricts us is federal laws. You may want to send LarryG36 an IM or an email, he is the resident full auto guy here.

Hello guys,
Its great to have such a good hometown forum. Since you guys are so knowledgeable, I was wondering if you've heard anything about open-carry for handguns in Nevada. I've been told by several Metro employees that there is no law against it but is rarely ever taken advantage of. I'm just trying to separate fact from fiction. Thanks for the input. |
|
Here is the email I recieved from Metro regarding open carry in Las Vegas. Nevada is an open carry state and the cities can't overrule gun laws. Might want to print this and put it in your car just in case.
Mr. Mayo, below is the response my office received from Detention & Enforcement. Mary Kleven Sr. Executive Assistant to Councilman McDonald City of Las Vegas 229-6405 464-2684--fax I contacted Sgt. Fricker at Metro/DTAC and posed the citizen's question to him. As with any situation, having more details would have been helpful in responding. However, this is what was learned. Generally, if a person has a "holstered" pistol, and has not committed any other offense, then there should not be a problem. Let me state that we are speaking of the City of Las Vegas. While I do not think there are any differences between Clark County, North Las Vegas, or Henderson ordinances regarding this matter, I would recommend that the citizen check with those govermental entities to be certain. In the interest of public safety, if a law enforcement officer observes someone carring a firearm under circumstances that may seem questionable, then the officer may approach the person to ensure all is as it should be. This may include checking the weapon is properly registered. Once again, its a delicate balance in assuring the safety of the public, as well as the rights of the individual. If the officer is responding to a call placed by another citizen concerned about someone carrying a firearm in public, then it is necessary to contact the weapon carrier to resolve the dispatched call. Again, if all is in order, the weapon carrier should be allowed to go on his/her way. Within the City of Las Vegas, it is illegal to carry a firearm, openly or concealed, in City parks. Even if the weapon is properly registered, and the individual authorized to carry concealed, it is still against City ordinance. I hope I was able to help in answering the inquiry. Jeff Dufrene, Lt. Field Services, D&E |

Hello Las Vegas members. Im in town visiting your city just thought i'd say hello while I was here.

Added the Aladdin and Stratosphere Tower as unfriendly to gunowners in Las Vegas in the first post.

the Boulder City Rifle and Pistol Club
has a 1000 yard range but it can only be used early in the morning on either Tues. or Wed. I am not sure which. check them out at: www.brpc1.org Tom |

I sent the Stratoshpere an email asking about their policy and whether or not it would change, regarding firearms. Here is the reply I got from them yesterday.
Mr. Kay9, The Stratosphere Casino, Hotel and Tower has not changed it's policy on firearms possession on property. Our security department will be happy to answer any other questions you may have regarding this issue. You can reach them through the hotel operator at 702/380-7777. Regards, Gladys Major Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower View Quote Guess where I wont be going? |

I was there a few weeks ago and was caught off-guard with a switchblade in my pocket. Since we had reservations for dinner running back to the car was not an option.
The security guard tagged it and gave me a claim check and we went on up. If it had not been a special dinner for my wife and I, we would have turned around and left. We will NOT be returning until the policy changes. I am just glad I wasn't carrying my pistol. Bob |

Is it possible to get cheap ammo in vegas?
I`ll be there for a day prior to the SP Crater shoot. I needz 308 |

If you liked red Rock Canyon and you have the time, take a run up to Zion Nat'l Park. A pretty neat run through canyons on I-15 and beautiful scenery when you get there. Make sure you go through the tunnel and past a few miles.
|
|
I saw on the news that they found dinosaur prints in Valley of Fire. Previously unknown to exist in that area. Valley of Fire reminds me of Red Rock Canyon. I love them both.
Bob |
|
On my way there in a few hours. I'll be sure to give the Aladdin and Stratosphere some polite, well thought out shit for their anti policies.
Good info - thanks, WP. |

Id like to add stay FAR away from the Bellagio
Im currently working there working on a tower. There security is the worst that i have ever seen, or maybe the best depending on how you look at it. I was told by engineering that they personally witnessed a hoo hah between the security at the bellagio when they asked a metro detective to remove her firearm and check it before going into the hotel. These people are anal when it comes to security. You must be badged to even enter there casino and they constantly check to make sure youre wearing your badge. Today i forgot my badge. They have security in every elevator. I got into the elevator and i talk to this security guard daily, and when he saw me he asked me how i was doing, then he asked to see my id badge and i asked him "dont you remember me??" he said yes, but i still need to see your badge. I told him that i forgot my badge at home and he said that he had to escort me out of the building so he took me down and escorted me out of the building. I asked him why this had to be that way and he said that they are on a hightened alert due to the recent code orange update, and they threw me out of the jobsite even though everyone there knows me cause i talk to them daily on the ride up the elevator. They also have no concealed weapons signs posted EVERYWHERE. The Big O is very gun unfriendly, they wont even let metro come into the casino with guns. Mike |
|
Hmm, never noticed the signs in Bellagio. I'll have to remember that the next time if i ever cruise in there again. Add the Blvd. Mall and Meadows to the list. Not sure about Fashion Show, but i wouldn't doubt they would have such signs as well.
i can second the Strat. A few months ago, i walked in there without seeing the signs. It was posted about 20 feet inside the building, high on a side wall. Not very easy to see, IMO, but there nonetheless. There is a metal detector at the base of the tower, which I didn't know was there until got there. I asked to store it upon seeing the detector; i was told they could not. I ran back to the car, and put it there, ran back to the metal detector. Told by helpful security guard, "you know, you can't even have that on property." Have any of you seen the surrounding area around Strat? The Naked City is what it used to be called. Regarding Bellagio, the irony is their big security show when you try to drive into the self-park. They have these two guys/girls randomly checking trunks for whatever. Imagine if a car bomb DID go off. Bellagio may be opening themselves up for a lawsuit, because they actually took the time to check the trunk, and didn't find the offending bomb!! |

When I lived in Las Vegas (left in 1998), my friends & I would carry an unconcealed pistol when on the way out to the desert for a little shooting. We would walk into the supermarket and Starbucks, and nobody freaked out. I also carried openly when riding my bike. The only place you may get hassled for open carry is on The Strip or in the Fremont Street experience. And the police take a dim view of anyone carrying a firearm in casinos, even if they have a CCW permit.
I took my CCW class with Jim Mayhugh when I lived there, I can attest to the fact that he is a knowlegeable instructor, has about the best prices going and is an all-around nice guy. I highly recommend him for the required CCW course. |

i will be in las vegas tomorrow morning, where do i go to rent full auto, i have been to the gun store, and they treat everyone like a kid, they will not even let you do mag changes on your own, is there a better rental store?
somewhere that might have rifle caliber guns? |
|
Hey, one of my friends got some sort of cheap rate at some downtown place called "The Las Vegas Club." We're talking $25 a night.
Is this some bust-out joint or a seedy place? He's beginning to remember that you get what you pay for. Thanks! Mike |
|
Crap! I should have checked here first before I asked in GD. Thanks for the info! I'll be hitting the brewery for sure!

I am heading out there the first week of December with 3 hell-raising Citadel classmates of mine for our 30th. birthdays. It's a Mon-Fri stay and we'll be at the Imperial Palace.
I've been to Atlantic City a number of times but Vegas is a first for me. Will we do OK by the Imperial Palace? I have heard that while the hotel leaves a little to be desired, the location is superb. Will carrying under HR218 be too much of a hassle? |

... when I travel on trips like these, I need a room only to SS&S. By time I get to my room, the only thing I give a damn about is hot running water, clean linens, no hobo's and very few insects.
... I light of that, what is the best economy hotel within a $5 cab fare to the convention center? |
|
Are the Aladdin, Bellagio, and Stratosphere still anti-gun? What about other Strip hotels? Mandalay Bay?
|
|
The Aladdin actually treated the Cav-Arms guys like kings, even with a carload full of machine guns. They had firearm check-in forms and they kissed Shawn's ass pretty good...the bad news is they just were bought out by Planet Hollywood and after Linda Rondstat was boo'd offstage they said when they take over the hotel they will have her and Michael Moore sing America the Beautiful together on stage. I know the Stratosphere still has "No Weapons" signs up everywhere, so yea, try not to stay there. For Bellagio, I've never seen any signs up there, maybe someone else has. Bob |

For all you Marines visiting Las Vegas, be sure to visit the Leatherneck Club on Spring Mountain Rd. and Arville. It boasts one of the most extensive collections of Marine Corps memorabilia in the world. On display are weapons, uniforms, unit patches, photos, and more.Every Marine Corps birthday there is a massive celebration there.Non-Marines are also welcome. They have inexpensive alcohol at the bar as well. The other night they had Bud Light bottles for $1.50. I can't get the Aladdin link to work. Why are they antigun, what have they done?
I'd also like to add that the OPM Nightclub in the Caesar's Forum Shops is the ONLY nightclub in Las Vegas that does not allow carry of firearms (they wand you and pat you down). Also, the Tuscany on east Flamingo has NO HANDGUN signs (as does Macy's at the Boulevard Mall). |

..or any other RV parks nearby? |

Sorry to necro a thread, but I just saw in one of the responses that LV prohibits park carry of firearms.
"13.36.055 Prohibitions. (A) The following are prohibited within any City park: (1) Fireworks, firearms or weapons of any kind; (2) Fires, except in barbecue facilities; (3) The hitting of golf balls; (4) The use of metal detectors, except for surface finds; (5) The unauthorized sale of goods or services. (B) Pursuant to Subsection (B) of Section 13.36.050, a copy or summary of the regulations listed in Subsection (A) of this Section shall be posted at each City park. (Ord. 5287 § 1, 2000)" If I read this correctly, this was passed in 2000, and should be invalid in that premption was passed in 1989 and covered issues of possession. Any thoughts? |
