List has been updated, and a copy sent out to everyone that is on it...

If you are not on the list on page 1, you did not get one yet.

Let me know if you did not get your copy, Thule, ClownGun, and shortnsweet are not accepting IM's...

I almost hate to do this, because of all the hard work you've done so far, but my call sign has changed since the page one list (look on page 2 for my post about it ).

No big deal.  IM inbound.

I think Phil has it taken care of...

But thinks, I need to update some info, and forgot about it... New stuff to add, new people to list, and unlist.

So I've been studying for my test.  I haven't looked too closely at the testing schedule, but there are about 19 tests in the next month or two within a couple of miles of my place.

What would be great is if one you local (SW WA) guys could show me the ropes on operating one of these....I guess it would help if I bought a radio.  It'd be great if someone could walk me through getting everything set up and how to use the radio, etc.  It doesn't seem like the test really tests you on that stuff too much.

Idea.. There are enough of us fellows with the higher class amatuer licenses that it would be pretty
easy to get a VE team together.. The ARRL VEC accreditation is an open book test and easy.

W5YI VEC  is even easier.  Be simple enough to run a test session at a get together.
The requirement for public notification was dropped so you can basically get a test session
together at will now if you have the testing material on hand.

Just got back from an exam in Okanogan, not a big session but there will be another
new ham on the air in the next couple of weeks.

I am a bit far from the west side but if anyone wants to take an exam over here on the dry
side there will be one coming up in Sept/Oct. in Okanogan.

The Federal Way Amateur Radio Club will be conducting technician training and testing, for nay who feel the tech test is too difficult...

Will probably be a General class coming up, too.

(Also a D-Stars seminar/workshop in November, for any who might be interested...)

If you have some in your area, post them ( Dont go posting the links to the entire repeater system in Washington State, most of us can google), dont forget to include the Input freq, (and if you can the Output freq for the guys that have older radios) The shift ( Positive,or Negative), and the Tone.

I can hit the Mt Pilchuck repeater, Camano Island, Mike & Key, PSE system, Evergreen Intertie, W2ZT UHF/W2ZT 220. I can hit the KC7SAR/Rattlesnake, and can get into the KC7SAR/Sobieski on good days. There are more, but these are the main ones.

Mt Pilchuck is in Sno Co, Input Freq 146.920/ Output is 146.320 ( Negative shift) tone is 123.0

Camano Island (KC7MAP) repeater is in Island Co, input is 147.360/ Output is 147.960 ( plus shift) Tone is 127.3

Redmond Mike & Key(K7LED) is Input 146.820 /Output 146.220 (negative shift) Tone of 103.5

W7PSE(W7UDI) is a linked system that darn near covers most of the western side if the state Click here for the link, so you can pick the repeater that that works best for you.

Evergreen Intertie (W7HTJ) is also a linked system that when you know how to use it can link several states... My local is Input 444.650/Output 449.650 tone of 131.8. I dont hear much use of the intertie links in use ever, and it is pretty much a western wa system.Click here, and scroll down to Washington State section to find the best repeater for you.

W2ZT repeater is my local 220 site, but it is also linked to a UHF repeater that has coverage from Olympia to Skagit county. Input for the 220 side is as follows... Input 223.940/Output 222.340 (negative shift) Tone 123.0.. The 220 side is easy to hit from my location, most people south of Sno Co will have great luck with the UHF side Input 442.500/output 447.500 (positive shift) Tone 123.0

Please take the time to list some of the repeaters that you use, with the information needed to program our radios. It would be really cool to start trying to get some Skeds/Rag chews going.

We also need to come up with a standard simplex freq. that we can use for meet up's,( Shoots, breakfast's, WAC show, LCR..ect..ect..) and such. Any ideas Let them fly. Maybe one for VHF, UHF, and 220. If it becomes common, we can even add a tone to it at a later date.

I can also hit K7LED (Mike & Key) well from my location.  I just joined the "9 oclock NET" last night (apparently 9:00 every day! met some nice guys) on W7VHY in Seattle (146.36 input/146.96 output/103.5PL).  I'm new and those are the two I've made contacts on and had good signal reports on only 10W.  I can activate the Mt Pilchuck repeater but haven't had a QSO on there yet so I'm not sure how my signal is coming through.

I've compiled the following from various R-32 postings.

We have a linked repeater system on the Wetside, but unsure which ones link to the Dryside.

Evergreen Intertie certainly link far and wide, but I dunno how to run it yet.

Nothing more to say other then you have to snoop around on the web page, and
request the free information handout. Once you get the handout, you will have
access to link the system from Montana, all the way down to Southern California
if you want. I use the local Freq, and have had a lot of fun with it.

No, but I should have done it years ago.  The code requirement kept me away much like soap keeps hippies away.

It was all ASG's idea.  He got his too.  I'll let him chime in and tell you how long he studied for.

[Last Edit: ASG] [#42]
I studied for two weeks and took the practice test a bunch of times during my spare time and just missed two questions. JSfagboy studied for 20 mins and still passed. I wasted two weeks where I could have been watching movies and surfing arfcom all night. At least now we can join the secret squirrel club. Now off to buy a radio. Any suggestions for something cheap?

ARRRRGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just wasted post 556!!!

  • 5+ years to get to #556?

  • It was less than 10 minutes.  I don't know where you got 20 from... Maybe that's one of the ones you missed?

Good deal,,,

as for radios, Yaesu, Icom, Kenwood...

I like the VX6, but that Kenwood triband radio is pretty nice also when it comes to handhelds.

Wenatchee, Grand Coulee Dam to Winthrop.

The Twisp repeater covering the Methow Valley is now linked to the Grand Coulee Dam and
Okanogan repeaters, with an echolink node on 354157.

Thank you for your posts. They are always succinct and useful for the times I'm over that way (though usually I'm near the Tonk Mt. repeater).
