Stickman, et. al. - thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. It has allowed me to take on a couple projects. In the last three weeks I have done a .22 pistol, Cav Arms lower and 10 mags, a glock slide, and two 870 stocks in camo. Some in Duracoat, some in Norrell's. Busy, busy. My wife mentioned I might want to either spend a little more time somewhere other than the garage..or move a bed in there... Here is the pics of my first project, an old, slightly rusty Iver Johnson .22 pistol. I did it in Duracoat black oxide. Here is the before photo, gun has been sandblasted a little to remove rust.  Here's the (mostly) finished product. I need to hit it in a couple of spots that wore off during re-assembly.  Will post the other pics soon. Thanks again everyone! |

My wife felt the same way. I really enjoy refinishing a worn down weapon and making it new again. Great job on the .22lr. I am going to be doing a Ruger Mark II for my wife soon. I think she decided if you can't beat them join them. |

Thanks Tested! I lol and read to my wife...she just asked me if I wanted some tea.... Here's the pics of my Cav Arms Lower and Mags from Okay Industries. The lower was originally black. I did them in Lauer Duracoat Swedish K. I'm including a pic of the receiver stamp so that everyone who wonders how thin these finishes can go on can see. I put several coats on this receiver. The Swedish K came out looking very much like OD Green (I put a factory OD green stock in the 1st picture for comparison). Two weeks later, the swedish k has turned a tad darker.  .   Here's the mags...there are a couple of scratches, I dropped a newly painted stock on it. I think most of it's tan paint, not a marring on the mag paint.

Sorry for hogging.. this is my last one for a while. I shoot an 870 for both 3 gun matches,and hunting. I just switch out the stocks and barrel. I did the stocks in a desert type camo that looks fairly good, but also is a good hunting camo for our area. The standard stock is the original old wood stock, Knoxx Industries for the other. I used Lauer Duracoat: very small amount of Swedish K spots Dark Earth (the grey/brown spots) DM Tan (main color) and Desert Mint over the top (the lightest color) I used a flectar stencil from www.bulldogarms.com I'm using Norell's for the barrel and receiver as it sounds like it holds up better to high heat and sometimes at 3 gun matches that baby can get hot! Will post those when done.

Happiness used to be a warm gun...but now it seems to be multiple pepper-poppers falling at the same time.
Great job man. i like that stock allot and the paint looks great. Refinishing is very addicting. |

What was the prep you did? Primer? How does it hold up to heat and wear? Im wondering as Im interested in doing a similar job on a RRA w/acog and I really liked the flat. The gloss is almost too nice. Do you have to constantly touch it up? Thanks!!! Sweetest pic yet... |

How do you get the stensils into the small crevases, such as the valleys and holes and stuff on collapsable stocks? I see many here who custom make their own stensils for their refinishing... And my question is, how do you make them, and what do you use? (As far as tools and materials for the stensils) |

After I cured the Norrell's, I degreased again. I then took some pine straw and covered everything with a couple of layers of pine needles. I then took my OD krylon and made some heavy stripes. Next, I took the brown and made a few stripes with it. Finally, I took the Khaki and made a few dots here and there. The beauty of it was after my first attempt I found that I was a little conservative with the OD and brown so I put the pine needles back on and added some more stripes. I also figure it will be easy to touch up if needed. |
This is the second time painting this gun. Still not happy with it, but I'll wait awhile before trying again.

Plain aluminum vented free float tube. I got it from M&A for like $40 or something like that. Not sure if they still carry the vented version though. Never could find out who actually manufactured it though.

This is very close as to what I want to do to my RRA rifle. Would you mind sharing which duracoat color you used and how it was done? I appologize, this is going to be my first try at refinishing. I'll be ordering trhe SOPMOD this coming week and I'll be practicing on the stock that came with the rifle before I actually do the LMT SOPMOD. |

This is matte black and OD Green with a coat of matte clear. Field stripped, cleaned, sanded off imperfections and went at it. Let me know what you think. Before  During  After  Other assorted pics.      I am really happy with appearance of the weapon. Was just fiddling around with the Bayonet and saw that it attached to Ethel. I think she looks wicked mean with it on her. |

Somebody did one with a smaller mesh that I really liked, but I can't find the pic again. I think the mesh looks fantastic. |
looks just as good. i really like the black lines, makes it look like, i dont know, bu tit looks good to me!

Tested - I agree..I like the two tone shotguns too. Nice job on yours. I'm refinishing an 870 in a desert camo right now, but next in line is my new 1100 tactical. It's factory OD green on the metal, with black stocks. Being addicted to refinishing like a I am..no sense leaving it! I'm thinking dark earth and black stocks for a two tone effect. |

Here is a Weatherby Mark V I finished for a customer last night. Did the barrel and receiver twice and the floorplate for the mag 4 times before I was happy with the way it looked. My photophu sucks though!
