Thanks. I thought about stippling the front strap but I think I might just try a wilson checkerd front strap insert painted to match. The grips took a bit of time. I used a dremel for the middle but smoothed the sides out and did the final fitting useing an Old Timer pocket knife. |

Ok, so what'd you do to get it to look like that? Not specifically the pattern, the colors. That's roughly what I want for SE SD; kinda a hybrid of OD and coyote and grey, I Think. |
All metal is KG Gunkote dark earth. The camo colors are just Krylon tan and OD green. The pistol grip is the new KG tan air cur material. I didnt like the way it sprayed, but it works ok. Need to test it more I guess... |

I used advanced tiger stripe brown and woodland tan as the 2 main colors and dm sand and colt gray for the small lines to add some dimension and break the shape up. After the pattern was all done I used some of the advanced tiger stripe to do a light over spray to help blend the colors a little so the lines in the pattern weren't so defined. |

Here are some new pics. Here is an SKS that I posted pics. of earlier. Hated the camo job so I re-did it. It is still a work in progress.  The AK on the right is one I just Duracoated and the one on the left is one I am doing soon. As you can see the AK on the right has a much "Flatter" look to it. Unfortunaetly the mag in it isn't one of the ones I had DC'd.  These pics. are of the same weapon after about 250 rounds. I screwed up by the safety when I was painting the white "S" on it and it got a glossy spot.   I have decided that I love refinishing weapons.

finally got the beowulf and .223 done. duracoat od.     came out as id hoped, except for the left side eotech rail bracket, forget to coat it. didnt plan on doing the scope, but had 1/3 a spray bottle left. hard to tape a straight line on a taper. |

Did it on the 29th at the last CO build party. -Degreased with $1 wal-mart brake cleaner -SAND blasted with Home Depot play sand at 80-90 psi. -degreased in a heated citrus cleaning solution (for 20 minutes turning occasionally) -rinsed in water -placed in heated parkerization solution until bubbling stopped (some parts 5 min others 15 or so while turning occasionally). Contact Stoner63 for exact parking solution. |
What type of pan did you use for the longer parts? Was it done on a stove? |

 Sandblaster is a Campbell Hausfeld AT1226, but Husky makes a copy of it and HomeDepot has them for $12-$15ish. Stuck hose into bottom of bucket and poured sand (play sand $2.90 at HomeDepot) into 5gal bucket. Setup needs a compressor ,volume seems to be the key, needs to be running in the 80-90psi range (90 is better). The compressor came from work it is a 30gal setup. This is the real investment here. As to the pans that were used, there were long steel (maybe stainless, I think) heated with a propane fueled with burner. Once again contact Stoner63a for better deals. |
I bought mine at Harbor Freight Tools. They have the best ones for cheap. The stuff I read said to use Glass bead not playground sand. I blasted one of my AK's and it worked pretty well. |

At 90-80psi it goes by quicker than you may think. Went lighter over the hand engraving, but over all it is not a blasted as much as it may look in the pics.

Just got it put back together today after a stock and optics change: RRA upper & lower finished in Norrell's molly resin tan RRA LPK w/2 stage trigger Magpul MIAD & PRS Samson MRFS-R finished in Norrell's moly resin tan Denny's 16" WOA stainless match barrel with matched bolt I was not able to get the accuracy I was after with the TA11 ACOG I had on it so I decided to try the Leupold 3-9x36 MR/T in a Larue mount. |

Well I just finished applying a Duracoat refinish job to my AK. I think that it came out well. The only thing I would do differently id add another dark stripe in the middle of the pattern.  From a distance in the terrain I live in.  Oh, for all of you wood furniture folks keep your snide comments to yourself if ya wood.

Hey Longhunter that looks great. Do you have to take apart the trigger group when you sand blast or can you leave it in and clean it really good afterwards? Only asking cause last time I messed with the TG I almost screwed it up that and I am also lazy.

Since I was parkerizing the weapon I opted to pull the FCG. This build has the Century FCG (which I don't think is as bad as everyone makes it out to be, but it is no Tapco G2). Anyway I didnt want it to get any worst. |
