I have found in northern Illinois a little more green in the pattern would be best for most seasons, but that is offset by fall.
As said, it is pretty good for a "all seasons" catch all pattern, but you likely can find camo that is a bit better for specific seasons/locales if you look around. I have actually found the color/pattern of Swedish M90 splinter camo is almost dead on for spring/summer in northern Illinois, but the stuff is damn hard to find! |

Michigan's lower peninsula you get a lot of fields and swamps with a lot of yellowish brown colors from late October to about December and again in April to May. So we're dealing with about five months of the year with no snow where it's pretty dead foliage and leafless brown trees. January to March you're definitely in the white of winter and June to September is pretty much green season. So it's green enough to work decently in the summer for I'd say about nine months of good coverage. Winter you want as much white as you can get obviously.
You know one area of Multicam that I like is that there are now a lot of options out there for softshell clothing in the MC pattern. You don't get the same options in softshells with other camo patterns and honestly in Michigan it's all about the softshells here with our crazy weather. You need the water repellant breathability hybrid that only a softshell can deliver here and you can't find that in MARPAT or any other camo as easily. So I see these camo comparisons all the time, but they never take into account the outer-wear availability. I mean in a world where you can just wear BDU's all the time sure who cares, but when you need outer clothing Multicam is King in terms of pure selection. Plus, you know with Multicam you're not limited to just a few manufacturers as everyone and their cousin makes it. I'm seeing a lot more companies now making Multicam Boots for example. |
