After being given the chance to shoot a Winchester SX2 Practical over the weekend I couldn't resist it any longer and ordered a FN SLP.  From what I have read it is the same gun, with an 18" barrel rather than 22" which suits my needs better.  Now I need to accesorize with a shell holder and a sling at the least.  I would rather have a plastic "tacstar" type shell holder than the floppy nylon style and would really like a three point sling.  Anyone know of a good place to shop for these parts?  I assume that anything made for the SX2 Practical would fit the SLP.  Any help would be appreciated.  On a related note, does "Esstac" sell these shell holders?  That would be the preferable set up.   Wicked shell holder set-up  ----------------  They are shown on this page

Thanks,

BTT as I have the same question.  I would imagine the Specter SOP sling for the 1300 would work, the only question is the front sling attachment point.  Does the SLP use the same threaded mag cap as the model 1300?

Regarding the shotshell holder cards, look above to the "SKD" icon.  They have them listed for $15.  I've ordered from SKD before (unreladed products) and was very happy with the service.

From the pictures it appears if there is only a stud at the bottom of the forgrip, so a side mount would probably have to be custom made.  I have ordered from SKD several times and they are tops.  Do you know if their cards are like "Esstacs"?  There is no picture listed.

I was thinking of a sling plate like the GG&G product for the Mossberg 590 and Remington 870.  I believe they make one for the 1300.  It fits at the end of the mag tube, then the cap at the end of the mag tube is screwed into place.

I have no idea if the cards are made by Esstac, but they are in the Esstac section.  An email to SKD would certainly clear this up.

I've heard rumor that the IPSC crowd has turned pretty anti SX2 saying that they aren't holding up.

Any info on this?

I love my shotshell cards.  I used ShoeGooII to afix the velcro to the receiver.  Holding up well.
You'll love the SLP.

Just don't buy ultra light bird loads.  Not enough oomph for the gas system.

Do you use any sort of 3-point sling with your SLP?  Specter SOP or similar?  If so, how does the sling attach  at the front?

Thanks!

There is a sling swivel under the front handguard.  I don't use a 3 point on the shotgun.  If I were to fashion a tactical sling, it would be a top slung, two point.  I would use a loop of 550 through the swivel and around the barrel.  Make it loose enough to allow about 1 inch of loop above the barrel when pulled upwards.  Attach sling to loop.  Similar to the old M4 carbine front sight sling clips, or whatever they are called.  It allows the front sight (standard FSGS) to be used as the front sling mount for a top sling.

Anyway, you get the idea.  For the rear, same thing, make a loop around the buttstock using the sling swivel to keep it from sliding forward.  I make two passes around the buttstock and keep the loops snug to the buttstock.  Now run the sling from the front loop, through the rear loop and back up to the front.  Making a big loop gives you the option of running 3 point or 2 point with the same sling.  Grab both pieces of sling, two point.  Just grab the top layer it's a 3 point.

Using a loose loop up front keeps it off the barrel when carried yet allows it to drop to the side when you mount it to your shoulder.  I don't think you can shoot and reload fast enough to melt the 550 around the barrel.  I've used 550 on the front sight of my issue M4 before and it takes a LOT of shooting before it melts.

I'll build what I've described and if it works I'll snap some pics.

Disregard the 3 point sling info.  I tried it, it sucked.  I did use some 1 inch tubular nylon webbing for a nice 2 point traditional sling though and that turned out nice.

I got the shell holder from SKD today.  It is the same holder that EssTac makes.  I ordered a universal 3-point SOP sling from Specter and will figure out a way to mount it when I get both it and the shotgun.  Anyone know when FN is shipping more of these out?  I have heard mid-December.

I got the gun a few days ago and got a chance to shoot it yesterday.  I only shot bird shot and some buckshot.  I will run some slugs through it next week and try to get some shot patterns with buck.  The gun is extremely nice.  Fit and finish is excellent and it is very easy to disassemble and clean.  The coating on it seems very tough.  I had my smith install a sling stud on the left side of the forearm to mount a Specter Universal SOP 3-point sling.  The rear attachment is one I had laying around from a universal kit for an AR.  Even though it is designed for an AR it fits the FN perfectly.  I bought some "Industrial Strength" adhesive velcro from Lowe's and cut a portion to fit the left side of the receiver to mount the ESTAC shellholders.  I cleaned the receiver several times with alcohol and stuck the velcro on, heating it with a warm iron on top of a rag.  After setting for 24 hours it seemed rock solid.

Shooting this gun is sweet.  I have never shot a shotgun this fast, nor a 12ga with this little recoil.  I could not lock it up.  It cycled birdshot even when it was only loosely mounted on my shoulder.  I am used to an 870.  This thing kicks just a bit harder than my AR's. No noticble muzzle rise, see the picture below. I ran a few 3"mags with 00buck and it felt like shooting a 2 3/4 heavy slug out of my 870.  Impressive.  I spent several hundred rounds breaking it in by busting some skeet.  Did pretty well for an 18" barrel.  The only problem I had was after about 200 rounds the rounds coming out of the magazine tube would bind on the shell carrier.  A quick cleaning with a gun wipe rag and some Miltek took care of the problem.  I kept the ESTAC shell holder mounted the whole time with 7 rounds of 00 buck and it never moved or fell off.  The shells sliped down in the elastic but their rims kept them in the holder.  I am still amazed how fast this gun is.  In the picture you can see on shell in the air and another about to come out of the breech.  I could get off at least four rounds before the first hull hit the ground, and I am by no means fast.  This is my first autoloader.  I think in 3-gun I would probably prefer the additional barrel length and shell capacity of the Winchester SX2 Practical but this fits my needs a bit better.  The sights are great, ghost ring detachable in the rear with white dots.  I read that it included night sights but they are just white paint.  All in all I could not be more pleased with this gun.  Try one if you get a chance.
