I've had my M&P9c for a while now and I still love it but the only downside is that I'm not crazy about the trigger.
Who here has the Apex trigger? Is it a massive improvement? Did you take it to a gunsmith to have it installed or was it a DIY job? This M&P9c is my only (for now) handgun I own and I want it to work at its best. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Apex makes it into an almost entirely new gun. It is like night and day.
You can do the install yourself. I did. You will need some tools. You have to drive out the roll pins in the frame. Typically, you are removing the sear housing block and trigger bar. I have replaced the sear, sear spring, trigger spring, and installed a RAM and USB in my M&P Pro. The same parts will fit in the compact. If you have one of the older SHB designs meant to accommodate the safety, the RAM can be used. If you have one of the newer "universal" frames (no safety and redesigned SHB) you cannot install a RAM and likely don't need it. You can still drop in a duty/carry spring kit, Apex sear, and even one of the AEK triggers, if you like, which are really awesome! Hammer, punches, and a little patience are really all you need. I can't stress the patience part enough. Anytime I have marred a frame or jacked something up, it has been due to losing patience and trying to rush/force something. eta: You must remove the sights in order to install a USB. Unless you have a sight pusher, or plan on sending it off, don't bother. The USB really smoothes the trigger pull. I think Dog1 advertised M&P services in that section of the EE. You can send him the slide to have a USB and/or night sights installed. You're on your own, so to speak, for the frame work. |
| I just had a kit installed in my Shield while it was getting a new front site installed. The trigger is much nicer. The biggest different Ive noticed in dry fire(had the gun back for just an hour or so) is that when the trigger brakes the gun doesn't move in my hand. Also, it used to have a catch feeling when I would rack the side while dry firing if I held the trigger. I hope that makes sense. I cannot wait to shoot it! |

Does all this apply to the MP45c as well? I just bought one last weekend. How do I know if I have the new sear block? Mine does not have a safety but there is a plug in the frame for where one would be. What is the test fire date on your brass case brown bag? |
|
This evidence, I'm sure, is purely anecdotal, but my M&P Pro with the frame safety plug (Jan. 2013 test fire date) is the older style SHB design and my more recently acquired M&P with the universal frame design (no frame safety plug and test fire date unknown) has the current SHB design. The trigger break and reset is also significantly more pronounced than it was in my Pro which merely had a reduced trigger pull from the factory and night sights.
Into the Pro, I dropped an Apex RAM, USB, sear and AEK trigger. The only thing you can't put in the models with the new frame and SHB design is the RAM, if I'm not mistaken. I plan to put a DCAEK and USB in mine along with their sear and polymer AEK trigger. |

I ordered a DCAEK and a poly trigger today from Apex's site. At least I hope it shows up by Sat... I need something to do. |

Quoted: Pretty easy DIY job. Watch the video online a few times and then do it. For me the trigger pull was not reduce by much, but what it did do was make the trigger pull CONSISTANT. also: *eliminated the phantom reset with the radiused striker blocker, *shortened the reset, *and made the reset more tactile and audible. |
|
Have it and LOOOOOOVE it!!
DIY job, Apex Tactical's YouTube that has all the instructions for the install... |

Got my DCAEK and poly trigger today and finished installing it a few minutes ago. I'm pretty handy so it didn't take very long but ymmv.
The hardest part is banging the rear sight off to change out the usb but sights are always a PITA. I love the trigger now and the only change I did was to keep the stock trigger spring. The Apex spring is too heavy. |

This thread has inspired me. I ordered a FSS polymer trigger kit and the armorer's block tonight from Apex. I got my sight pusher in this last week so I'm ready to do the full install. It should be fun! Where did you get your sight pusher and which brand did you get? Price? |

I know I did all the work with just basic hand tools and whatever came in the Apex package. |

The "tool" included in the kit is used to hold the striker block spring & cap in while positioning the rear sight back into place. To actually remove the rear sight you need to use a punch (which I'm not a fan of for tritium sights) or one of the MGW (Maryland Gun Works) sight pushers. I bought the sight pusher from Midway. Total cost was in the neighborhood of $138 delivered. When I considered the cost of Apex - or any gunsmith - to do it, I figured I would just make the investment. I'm glad I did. It was really easy to do with the sight pusher. I also ordered the M&P armorer's block from Apex when I ordered the FSS kit. What a great piece of equipment! I really like the M&P pistol line, and Apex makes some amazing products to augment an already excellent platform. I installed mine and my buddy's kit in our M&Ps today. It was a breeze. |

I just installed the Duty/Carry kit in my 45, fantastic trigger pull I had 6# before the Apex upgrade, now it's right at 5# and exactly as advertised; crisp break, much less over travel, short reset. A little bit more takeup, but that's of no consequence. I haven't fired it yet... but will post a range report when I do edit: Apex now includes sear springs for both early and late manufacture sear housing blocks, so it's no longer necessary to have an early block modified by a gunsmith. Just pick the appropriate spring and install |

Thanks for that clarification. I own punches, so I'm guessing I used one. It's been awhile since I did it

I just finished installing the APEX DCAEK on my M&P9 fs. Pretty easy install, even for a guy with giant clumsy hands like me.
Nice to have the grittiness gone! I really hated that. Pull weight is lighter for sure (1/2 to 3/4 lb less). Reset seems shorter but it's the same tactile feedback if not less. Over-travel seems shorter as well. There's still mushiness between takedown and click. Hopefully I notice it more when I shoot it later this weekend. Overall, i'm not sure I'd call it a massive improvement but my expectations were likely unreasonable. ETA: I sure would like the RAM kit for reset but won't fit my frame based on what I've read. |
| Shot it last weekend with the DCAEK installed. Wasn't bad. reset is short, which i like. i think I may have offset my rear sight a bit because I'm not nearly as accurate. It's either that or I'd been compensating for the old trigger characteristics and the new trigger needs some getting used to. Either way, it's user error I'm thinking. |

i think I may have offset my rear sight a bit Before removing the rear sight, I put separate small pieces of masking tape on the rear sight and top of the slide, and then used a sharp pencil to make "witness marks" on the tape pieces. Then tapped the sight back in to align the marks, shot it, and found that zero was restored. And, the Apex kit is what they say it is. Don't think twice. |
