My best friend just called me from Iraq.  Seams he was driving down the road in his truck.  Some Haji had a bomb planted beside the road.

He slowed down when he saw something odd on the far side of the road, then hit the gas when he realized he better get the hell out of there.  Just as he was passing what turned out to be a bomb, a civilian car passed between him and the bomb.

The civilian was killed and the car blown up. He has a bad ringing in his right ear, a bunch of holes in the door of his truck, and all of my F.L.A.K. jackets and body armour that I sent him is now full of holes.

Other than the ears ringing, he is fine. A few cuts and bruises, and a little pumped up on adrenaline, but good.

Talk about the gods smiling on you.  Damn, you just never know what is going to happen today!

Now, should I make him pay me for the 4 F.L.A.K. jackets he had stuffed in his door panel?

It will get better when he comes home in December.  I need to start stocking up on good German beer and wine now.  It is going to be one hell of a party.

Dab, Warsteiner, Celebrator is good, but I rarely see it.  I still have a bunch of the little goats that come with the bottles.

Becks is good, Heinekin will do in a pinch.

Gösser, (Austrian) used to be good, but tastes like the crap Budweiser puts out now.

Wine, HAS to be Blue Nun.

The best American-German beer is Yuengling.  I once made a 500 mile run for the stuff.

you know that is great...i got a call at 0600 AZ time this morning telling me that a VERY good friend of my got his left leg blown off and they will be amputating his right leg in the morning from a roadside bomb.  this guy is from socal and one harley ridin motherfucker!  only means of transportation and he would ride to my house in Yuma, just for a party in the middle of winter.  i would just assume be dead.  i am a 20 year Army SFC Ret combat medic, and have been in Gulf War 1, Somalia, Rowanda, and Bosnia and am 90% disabled both mentally and physically.  i wish your friend the best, and still pray for the ones that are coming back all fucked up!  sorry, bad nite

Hey Legacy,Lifes not over for your Friend,I used to know a Harley rider with two prostetic legs.

Hey Ober,Yuengling Lager has to be the best US/German beer made.I believe they've started selling it outside of the North East.

That kinda reminds me of that video from a pilots cockpit during the 1990 Gulf war, where they show that Iraqi driving across a bridge right as an F-16 is dropping a bomb on it- the guy passed right through the crosshairs of the pilot's bombsite.... and got to the other side of the bridge just in time to see, in his rearview mirror, the bridge get blown to hell.

Both of these incidences make your firend and that iraqi driving his truck the luckiest people in Iraq.

Legacy, sorry to hear that.  I would be very mad if it were my friend.

I guess the best thing would be to be supportive and just be his friend. Look at it this way, he is alive and is comming home.  Others do not have that luxury.  The army will get him a prosthesis.  They are not all that bad nowadays. Not like having your own leg, but he can still walk and ride his bike.  Convince him that now he has some good stories for his biker buddies, and that now he is the toughest dude in the group.  It is all about how you look at it.

You still have your friend, that is the important part.  He'll need some support when he gets home, but he is commig home.  Be mad now, get as mad as you want. Damn, I know I would be, but get through it bfore he gets back because he will need level heads, and not all of his friends will have level heads.

This advice comes from experience.....

JOHNO, that still do not sell it out side of PA very much.  There are a few boarder towns that have it in Ohio now.  The Lager is good, but the Black and Tan is about the only American made beer I will drink.  My wife is a Yuengling.  Just far enough removed to not get free beer, but to get a Christmas card every year, and a free T shirt when she visits the brewry.

legacy, i had a cousin that lost both legs to sugar diabetes. he continued to ride motorcycles to the day he died.

i wish your friend the best in the years he has left.

being on the roads in iraq is the most dangerous job out there imo. the drivers are just sitting ducks for ied's and ambushes.

we didn't kill nearly enough of those bastards when we took the country...we need to a bunch more and do it quickly.
