I just assembled my first AR and am having a problem getting the front pivot pin all the way through the upper. If the upper is not in the pivot pin goes in just fine through the lower. The upper is a Daniel Defense, lower is a stag and LPK is DPMS. If heard if you just knock it through with a hammer it will loosen it up but I really dont want to use a hammer seeing how I just broke the trigger guard on my lower using a hammer. Any suggestions

Try putting the front pin in first with the upper and lower apart.
Like this:

Then see if it will close and let the rear pin go in.
The upper or lower might need to go back to the manufacturer.

Yeah i tried that, the pin will go in but it is just really hard. I have to use a rubber mallet to get it in and once it is in the only way to get it out is by putting a screw driver in the other end and hitting it back out

If you can get both pins in.  Just shoot it.  It will loosen up.

Next time try a set of Channel-Locks for the trigger guard

That's a great idea, thanks

If you have the means, try measuring the diameter of the hole for the upper.  Or try the following:
Swap uppers/lowers with another weapon you know works.
Remove the front pivot pin and try it on the upper receiver.

I would remove the spring and detent pin for the front pivot pin then reassemble the upper to the lower and see if it solves your problem. If it does the small detent pin has a point that is locking up the front pivot pin keeping it from moving, a few seconds on some sand paper to give it a slight radius should solve your problem
