I just got in all my parts to build my Spikes stripped lower.  This will be my first build & trying to figure out what tools & equipment I will need to complete the build.  Do I need a vise or something to do this?  Any info would be great!

Thanks!!!

Bult my first with roll of electrical tape to protect the finish, a small hammer, punches (brass preferred), vise grip with tape on jaws. It was simple. No vise

Thanks for the link!  How can I build the lower without a vise though?  What can I use to keep the lower from moving when hammering in the pins?

I've never used a vice to build my lowers. Just get creative!

The only time I need a vice is to hold the barrel or upper receiver.

If you use the vice grips wrapped in electrical tape, you'll be doing very little hammering. I've put together a handful of lowers without a vice. Not that difficult.

I use a ratchet bar clamp, and a wood block.

Hammering on an AR Lower is a no go. It's more of a tap tap. This is all that's needed. An upper, well that's a different subject.

Any excessive hammering will lead to your next post. This will include the words but not limited to.... broken ear, aluma-hyde, sharpie, JB Weld or the dreaded "grip of shame".

I'm going to try the vice grips wrapped in tape.  Going to try & get it done this weekend but have so many damn things going on.

go slow, if it doesn't work the first time don't continue to put pressure.  something akin to measure twice cut once

Anyway, here are the tools and how it's properly done....
