Looking for an upper and found Spike's and Bravo Co. have them w/ blemishes ...$60 and $75 respectively.  Anyone ever bought either and if so have there been any issues?  Are they good for the price?  Looking to save some cash so I can buy a nice barrel and rail.

I've been reading these forums for about two weeks now and have read almost everything on starting builds and company reviews.  However, while at my local shooting range last night I mentioned that I might purchase equipment from either ST or BC.  A guy behind counter tells me not to buy from Spikes that they have a bad rep. and that they do not make mil-spec material regardless of what the website states.  I tell him they have good reviews and people are confident in buying their products.  Nonetheless, I wanted to avoid an argument and came straight home to search these forums.  Everything I've found says both companies are reputable.

Comment welcome please and thank you.  BTW these forums are great I have learned much in the last two weeks.

LAR/Grizzly, blems for $48 and they are GREAT. There is a recent thread in this section about them and responses from the members that got them. I am still waiting for a couple more of A3's with NO M4 cuts, but if you want a stripped A3 upper with M4 cuts, or a stripped A2 upper blem for $48 they have them in stock now...<><....:)

LAR here

Guy I know bought a box of the BCM blem uppers, they seemed fine. I have no experience with the spikes blem uppers BUT I was sold two out of spec non-blem lowers from spikes.

I mean lower.
I have zero experience with their blem uppers. At one time I had one regular spikes upper. I also used to have two "normal" spikes lowers bought directly from spikes which were machined out of spec.

Just curious, what aspect was out of spec? I just got myself a Spike's stripped lower. I'd like to make sure mine is good to go before I install a LPK.

I got one, it's a really nice piece, M4 cuts.  I couldn't find a blemish on it and it only cost me $60 shipped.  I think the shipping charge is the same for one or multiple.  Wish I had the money to buy a few extra now.

Ok good so no issues with grizzlies ...however, no responses about the spikes or BCM.  I did some more reading on the history of the company and everything appears OK.  I'm beginning to think my local shop maybe biased and would prefer i bought from them.  I think I'll go ahead and order the spikes complete lower.

I have all three blem uppers (LAR's, BCM and Spikes) The blemishes are so small you cannot tell what is the problem. You probably will have to buy the ejection port cover, pin and retainer, and spring as well as the forward assist plunger. Plan on another $30 or so for those parts.

I bought a BCM blem upper.  It came with the ejection port cover and the foward assist assembly.  You just have to install them, but that is easy.  The foward assist roll pin that came with the upper was a little big, so I used one from Del-ton and didn't have any problems.
I purchased the blem upper because I haven't built an upper and figured this would be a good one to "practice" on.
It's a nice upper.  The blem marks are on the rail.  Looks like some type of optic was mounted on it.  Other than that, it is good.
I would buy another, but I am looking at one of the LAR A2 blem uppers.

I would stay away from that shop.  I am not a Spikes fan (as in I am neutral, not that I don't like them) but they have a solid reputation. I don't like shops that trash other places to get business.

Looking at getting one of the Grizzly blems and putting my upper together myself, do I need to take it somewhere to have the headspace checked or do it myself, or is it even a big deal with new parts?
