[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Handguard and barrel differences

I'm in the process of building each of my kids an AR15 and I need some info on what the differences are (if any) between the M4 barrel and handguard and the CAR 16 inch barrel and handguards. My son is 23 and stands 5 foot nothing and might weigh 105 lbs. soaking wet and he would prefer a shorter, lighter version than my 20 inch Hbar.

M4 hand guards are thicker in diameter verses the CAR hand guards. As far as the M4 barrel verses the CAR light weight barrel, the M4 will be a tad heavier. This is the rifle I built for my son, he’s 16 years old and 5’11”.

Here is what I put together for my two sons. I went with a middy build for the two of them. Whatever you decide to build, you are going to feel great.
