Ok, got my threaded barrel and A2 for Xmas.  How do I correctly index it.  No matter where I start, the part with no holes end up on the top.  It came with a washer that looks like a regular washer.  Is this a crush" washer and if so, will I really be able to tighten it 1/2 turn to get it correctly aligned?

Thx for the help!

Sometimes its hard to get the "crushing process started but after it does you should be able to index it by sight. Hope your using the proper tools to hold the barrel or upper reciever.

You have a peel washer. You have to peel layers off until your fs will index correctly.

ETA: Here's a link that explains the differences between crush washers and peel washers

Close-up of a peel washer. You can make it thinner by heating one corner and after it cools you should be able to peel layers off with your fingernail.

What's left behind.

Very basic question here, but if the A2 is not lined up correctly does this have a negative effect on accuracy, etc?

I'll have to pull out my upper, but I think I'm slightly off on the alignment.

Thanks!

Not really. It would just push the muzzle in a wierd direction. It dosent have to be perfect per the FSM. I think my Phantom is a couple of degrees off, but I can't be sure and no one has said anything about it, so I really don't care.

Thanks for the reply LoneWolfUSMC!  At the ranges (under 100 yards) I have been shooting at I haven't noticed any negative effect, but didn't know what others thought about it.
