| Hey, I'm new to AR's, and would truly appreciate any help you guys could offer. I know most of my questions have probably been asked many, many times and for that I appologize. I have looked at Model "1", and J&T. Are there any other manufactures I should look at? Also what kind of build-time am I looking at for a project like this? The site looks awesome, and I look forward to being a part of it. Thanks and have a good one. |

M & A is the other big DIY supplier. I have never seen one of their rifles in person though. http://www.m-aparts.com You know you're normally just assembling the lower with these kits? You get a lower parts kit and an assembled upper. Check and see if you can get a chrome lined barrel on the upper you buy, at least that's what I would do. I thought J&T was offering that now, but could not find it easily on their website, you could call and ask. You can get DIY kits from just about every manufacturer, but I suspect that these three are the vast majority of the DIY market because of their lower cost over the other manufacturers. Oly has a $ 400 kit on sale now. I think it comes with a 16" heavy barrel that is not chrome lined. |

First thing I'ld do is try and decide what kind of rifle you want...for your first one. Depending on how you or what, you want to shoot. You can tailor your first build to that goal. If your needs or wants change later you can just add another upper, and yes you can put together your uppers too. Just adds a little more knowledge to your crainium. What do you want to shoot? |
