I'll most likely be issued an M16 A3 or A4 when I depoly.  Odds are it won't have a rail system so I'll probably need to secure the light to a front sight mount.  Which light do you recommend and where is the best place to purchase?

+1 what C4iGrant said.

I have the same one that he recommended which I bought from him and I'm very satified with it.

I'm also using the Midwest Industries MCTAR-15-01 tactical light mount on my front sight base.

You could either mount your light on the right side or left side of the front sight which ever side you prefer.

Make sure you're not going to be issued a peq/2 before settling on a front sight base mounting solution.  On standard handguard M16's it mounts at 12:00 right behind the front sight base.  On the 203's it will be on the right side of the weapon.

I had a 203 and with the SureFire FSB mount it only obscured the illuminator which wasn't a problem since I used an IR cover on the light.

Your easiest solution might be to secure a short length of rail through those mysterious holes that somebody, long before you were issued the rifle drilled in the handguard.

Get Some,
Alan
