I just bought some stripper clips for 5.56, I was wondering if there was any way to break them in or loosen them up. I couldn't hardly get any rounds more than an inch on them, let alone 10 rounds to fill them up.

Any suggestions?

BTW if this is in the wrong section please move, I wasn't for sure where to put this.

I got them from Sportsman Guide, they are suppost to be GI stripper clips that we not issued. I think they call them the m-16/ ar-15 stripper clips.

Update:

I placed a empty brass case in it and I heard a crunch sound, then I seen what looked like sand or salt or something of that nature comming out of it. After that it loosened up enough to get the rounds in, but when I put in the rounds there were still a little tight, but they could move. Also I kept hearing come crunching or metal popping when I was placing the rounds in.

I wiggled the case in another and the rounds went in file and stayed put.

I bought some a few years ago from them that had the same problem.  They basically did the same thing.  I have a bunch of them that I'll sell you cheap if anyone wants them.

Go to Wu's website.  He has great strippers for like 6 cents each.  I bought a bunch from him and I'm currently using them.  They work great!

I got some from Sportsman's Guide that had sand in them. What a pain! I put a little CLP on them and loaded them up.

The sand worked itself out normally.

Do not put oil on your stripper clips. You could contaminate the primer and make the ammo useless. If you *have* to lubricate, rub a litlle candlewax on them. The a FAQ for stripper clips here.

Dumb question here, but you never know until you ask. What are the advantages of stripper clips?

Another big +1 for Wu's surplus. He's a little slow, but great prices.

Aside from readin the FAQ I posted a link to - I load all my ammo on stripper clips for range use. I only take ONE mag with me, and can quickly reload. When I get home, I refill the stripper clips while watching TV.
