Hello just wanted to say hello and introduce my self, I'm Ryan long time lurker. I have finally decided to take the plung and do a retro build. I will post update in here when things progress.
So far I have a m16a1 upper with 3 prong flash hider and correct stock </a>Build by ryan rangel, on Flickr" /> </a>Build by ryan rangel, on Flickr" />
It came with barrel, but it looks like it was done in black vs the correct grey, so I'm debating vs anodizing and cerakoting, my only problem with the cerakote is i want the gun to show wear. Nds 80% xm16e1 that is out to braceman for retro markings And a few things from heatnbeat. |
Welcome, Ryan...you poor, doomed bastard.
Yeah, you're on your way--and you've already engaged some of the key retro pimps enablers technical resources for your new madness! We're always happy to see fresh meat here--even if it means one more person competing for old parts! Speaking of which, keep an eye out for a rectangle-pad dust cover. that looks like an A2 pad in your pic. Gotta love three-prong-wearing retro rifles, though! You'll turn a lot of heads on the range when that's done! |

Sorry you decided to visit! This is like the Hotel California, ""We are all just prisoners here, of our own device" Since I've been here the last few months, I have bought an AR18, RA M96, and a 1969 SP1. AND... currently have 3 builds going, TWO M16A1s ( H&R - COLT) and a 607. Tryin hard not to start buyin parts for a Hydro. So stop right now, destroy your internet connection, and send me all the parts you have accumulated. Its the only way out! |

Borrowing his pics, you can see that the A1 port door has a flat rectangular pad...
...while the A2 port door has a "square," but angled ("raised," or "3-D") pad:
It's easier to see if you look at it from an angle, of course. I was going to snap a photo of these from the side but I don't have any A2s within reach. (The earliest port doors, of course, also had a square pad, but they were flat like on the A1 door.) |

Here's a link to get a correct repro port door
