Well, we tried to go somewhat retro (my brother and I).  Here in CA the Colt lowers are banned so we had to make do.  Found some old A1 stocks, grips and handguards.  My brother's is on the right, a Colt upper from CDNN on a Sabre Defense lower.  The far left is a Delton kit, the middle is Bushy/Doublestar mixture with an old stockset.  Call it a family photo.

Tzvia.

Are those detachable 20 round magazines?
<hr height=1px color=black noshade>

Nope.  They are 10 rounders that look like 20 rounders.  One came from Bushmaster, the other from Armalite.  I wish...

And yea, the mag releases are drilled/tapped and setscrewed (and we are screwed out here too).

Tzvia

So far I have only used the Bushmaster 10rd aluminum mags and they work great, but I do have 2 of those 10rd steel mags that look like 20's. I have not had a chance to try them yet and I am curious if they work well? How do you like them?

The 10 rounders that look like 20's work just fine.  The other ones I have, 9 round ones, suck.  Sometimes the follower rides over the bolt stop and the action stays closed after the last shot so I am looking for more of the ones that look like 20's.  The crap we have to go through living in this state.  If not for the job market, I would be elsewhere.

Where'd ya get the old pivot pin?

ETA: Is it a pushpin or do you have to screw it in somehow? The one on my SP1 is just the 2 piece screw.

Norrells Green/Grey on the Lower, Upper, Charging Handle, Front sight base, Handguard caps, Delta Ring and Flash Hider.

I finished this the other day. My first refinishing job and my first complete AR15 build, from a complete tear down and all used parts except the barrel and the handguards.

I thought it was going to turn out way too green, but when I started putting on the stocks, barrel, and controls, which I left parkerized, you could really start to see more of the grey.

The grass in the lower picture brings out the green too. It really turned out nice.

By the way, the only session at the range I've had time for, forty rounds went to point of aim at 25 then 100 yards with no changes to the sights and with no malfunctions. I think I got lucky

Yeah, I leave it that way with the bolt out until I get to the range.

Some armorer in the distant past must have done a crappy tightening job on the upper because when I got it, I had to fit it to the lower. the rear hole on the upper was out of round like they had taken a hammer to it  to take up space. After working on it with a couple of fine files, I got it to fit tight, then after I refinished it, the Norrells made it really tight. so... I keep a .50 cal round handy to push it out, and I don't push it all the way back in until I head for the range so I can pull it with my fingers if need be.

But you're right, I should have pushed it in for the pix.

Thanx for the good comments!

Here is mine:
I still need a lower parts set.  The lower I'm using now is a Colt LEO Tactical Carbine.  I plan to use this lower:

Well I finally finished my build, for the most part. I basically put it together from parts I had layin around.  The only things I bought specifically for this build were the lower and parts kit, and the stripped upper.  And before someone points it out...Yes, I still need a rear sight assembly
Here are the Specs:
CMMG Inc. MOD4SA Lower
CMMG Inc. A1 Upper
Bushy 16" Light weight bbl with A2 Flash hider
Colt M4 Handguards
RRA 6-pos Collapsible buttstock
Stag Arms Ambi selector
BFG Vickers Tactical Sling
Ergo Grip

Now for some Pics.

Thanks.
The 1911 is a WW1 dated US Property marked Colt, that was rearsaneled for WWII.  Everything is parked except the slide, because the original cracked.  Bought it from a friend, won't say how much.

"I'm probably gonna have to settle for a Springfield, Rock Island, or Auto Ordnance"

The Springfield GI Repros' a fine gun with lots of potential if you want to buld it up any, or left alone out of the box.

BUT the Colt WW-1 Repro is outstanding, and is basically a re-issued 1918 Colt 1911 made from the original drawings complete with the original inspectors markings...by the real company that made the most of them for Uncle Sam...and HAND-MADE by  U-S Craftsmen.

Pricey, but well worth it!

Before:

CDNN Upper, New RRA Self-Built Lower, Moore Militaria A1 Grips & Non-Trapdoor Buttstock.
Difference in USGI Old Colt and New RRA Color waay to much. May end up sending the lower off the get re-anodized Colt Gray when I can get around to not wanting to play with it for a while.
Range Report & more pics asap.
Build went fine, though I launced a pivot pin detent into space and crushed the bolt-release split pin. Luckily had some spare parts from other projects. Stock RRA trigger breaks pretty clean out of the box. Improved with some grease. Upper cleaned up well, lotsa cosmoline that needed removing. Whole project needs more lube to smooth out and break-in. The sticky takedown pins initially were impossble to open-close. Needed lotsa oil and working in. the Safety was the same way, but working fine now.
Amazing how the bolt release and mag release feel so smooth out of the box. Except for the bolt release split pin, all the other RRA internals were super-fitting for their lower.

After:

Back from a quick trip to Victor at U-S Anodizing, lower refinsih went very well and matches nicely.
Debateing upgrading the stock RRA to a Match...shoots great except for "correct" basic mil-spec trigger system. I guess the trigger goes with the Retro Build and matchs the look and feel of the real thing.

Well worth the time and effort to get it refinsihed.

QUIB

That looks great!

I am still working on mine.  Its going to me an A1/K.I.S.S. with more of a nod to the current crisis involving the IDF.

I ended up getting a Bushmaster Superlight and I thought I wanted to chop it, but I think I am going to leave it at 16" for now.

I should have pics up in about a week.

I guess it's my turn to post my (in the sprit of) M16A1 clone I just slapped together. It's a CDNN M16A1 upper on a DPMS cast lower. The A1 pistol grip and butt stock w/trapdoor are from Northridge. I think I will have to do something about the color mismatch. This is very close to what I carried when I was in the Army back in the early 80's.
