I was thinking of you when he started talking about 20" barrels.
|
|
He makes valid points but forgets one huge point. Some people just want to shoot and have fun, who GAF about barrel length, weight, Suppressed, gas block type etc.. if all one is going to do is leaveing it ground mounted on the firing line and do mag/belt dumps a few times a year. Everything doesn't have to be super serious. What happened to just having fun? lol |

He does not really address the reasoning behind the heavier barrels, aka to extend heat buildup time. The only reason to have a shorter barrel is maneuvering in CQB but the squad's support weapon is not what is suppose to be used for that role. Of course he talks about the short barrel in the Mk46 and Stoner 63 in beltfed mode but both of those are for specific special forces rolls that utilize small squads where the SAW gunner has to cover more rolls that fire support. The special forces role does not usually even utilize a bipod. I guess he is implying that use by civilians would be closer to a special forces roll so his barrel insights do apply. |

I always kinda scratch my head when all the YT talking heads refer to team or group movements in SHTF. That is the best case scenario, have more guys but I think in all reality its going to be more like 1-3 guy ambush hit and run tactics if something ever kicks off on American soil. I think we have been studying the wrong side of the past few conflicts that America has been involved in. This is all in reference to Minecraft and creeper hit tactics of course. |

Clearing buildings all day won't happen and you won't need to carry thousands of rounds like a mil op. But there's kind of two ways to build this concept anyway. The more handy IAR and the heavier RPK style. I went with the latter. That guy seems kind of reluctant to make that video and doesn't believe in any of it, even saying something like "i'm not the one to talk you into getting one of these" and "go watch this other channel if you want to know about how to use this" |

I took his comments about asking someone else as his admission that he's not former military or specifically trained on utilizing that sort of platform, he's a guntuber, so look for info on that aspect from people who were (he always adds a disclaimer about not being law enforcement or mil and just being someone who likes guns). I saw this video as a this is the basic idea and here is what I did type of thing. He acknowledged the logistical problems with feeding it as civilians when incorporated in the IAR role so that's realistic. Watching some of his other videos, he's obviously got a lot of guns but like most of us, most of them seem to be more, "because I can" or "I wanted to try something myself" or "because it's fun" guns but in the videos of him, Brass Facts and the other guys in the desert and mountains he's usually got what looks to be one or two default rifles. Never met the guy and don't watch all of his videos so maybe I'm off here.

Without using it correctly, this concept is just a shitty uncontrollable, long, and heavy AR. I just find most guntubers annoying now that they're all selling something. I used to go to YT for real reviews, as all gun magazines were bought and paid for long ago. Now youtubers are as well. Here and reddit are the only places left for real critical opinions on products. |

I like the look of that bipod. Quickly cants to the side for reloads. |

Big thread in the Tactical Gear forum where he talks about developing it for CF over many pages (though I don’t remember which page he starts mentioning it). I have one in woodland and it is TITS. I think it’s the perfect “Prepared Citizen” set up. |

Very nice! Looks like what I have in mind although I picked up a Magpul MOE Fixed stock to try. I've got an extra A2 I figured I'll put on it if I don't like the Magpul. |

I haven't shot a gun with a FRT yet but I have shot multiple machine guns. Just extrapolating based on those experiences, I think it's going to be harder to use the PA 5X just because of the tighter eye relief and the gun moving while shooting. If I ever get around to putting mine together I plan to try out both PA prisms, as well as a flip to side magnifier (I've got a 3x and 5x to try). Brass Facts has a good video that pretty much matches what I thought about the 5X but he obviously has a lot more time on it. Put the video in a spoiler so it doesn't take up a lot of space. Click To View Spoiler If I were to go with the 5X I'd probably add the Heromod mount (https://heromod.com)mount and put a red dot on it. It's made by the guy from the Deltathirtyfour channel but watching/reading some other reviews it does get good reviews for a piggyback mount since PA's version bends. He's got a bit more details in his longer review of the 5X including cutting it in half. Click To View Spoiler |

Took mine out yesterday for it's first super safe run. It did great. The 60 rnd Schmeisser mags were all brand new and the springs very stiff. Super safe was only working after about 5 rounds were shot in each mag. I'm sure this will improve once the mags are better worn in. It was a lot of fun and very controllable. Attached File |
