Has anyone tried adding a JP Thermal Dissipator to their barrel? I know they're used on competition guns, don't recall anyone in this thread mentioning them but I haven't read back through it either. https://www.jprifles.com/1.4.5_hs.php |

I assume it’s because they have a friendly relationship with L6. Nothing wrong with that but I haven’t found anything saying the JP is bad or it wouldn’t work. |

All told, I think I have a bit over 6,000 rounds of belted 5.56. I sold most of the ones in the bottom pic through the EE as repack kits, complete with the drum, 200 links, a starter tab, and the nylon bandoleer. |

Well I finally put a bipod (QD though) on mine, an 18"er, and hot damn I'm liking it for this role. Especially with the gun being somewhat muzzle-heavy, it really locks the gun down to mother earth. I think it really is essential to this specific role. Been a while since I've shot off a bipod, always using bags or other supports. |

Ok, talk me a ledge here, fellas. I'm kicking around taking the quad-rail off my RRH Recce IARv1 and replacing it with a similar Midwest Combat m-lok handguard. What are the benefits to the quad rail on these sorts of set ups? Just heat absorption? Are there other factors I'm not thinking of, besides "qual rails cool?" |

Wow, 1/2# is a pretty good bit, especially when the rifle is on the heavy side to start with. I've never handled, much less shot, a RRH but based on what everyone says about them I'd really hesitate to get rid of it unless I was wanting a shorter barrel and less weight. Does anyone make similar parts for an <14.5" barrel? |

However, I'm also kicking around taking the quad-rail off and replacing it with a standard m-lok handguard like a RIS3. What are the benefits to the quad rail on these sorts of set ups? Just heat absorption? Are there other factors I'm not thinking of, besides "qual rails cool?" Are you selling it simply due to the handguard? If so, just change the handguard |

I'd rather sell a set up or two and roll the funds into better optics or another can. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to sell it. Changing the rail out w/ a similar Midwest m-lok is probably the route I'm going to go. Well, that would be the easiest thing to do - swap it with an MLOK version of the same rail, so you don't have to futz with the barrel nut. |

My favorite rails are the geissele mk4 and 15 because they're mlok for weight savings, but railed full length on top as well as on the sides at the end of the rail where you are most likely to mount accessories. Best of both worlds. |

I finally got all of the pieces together, time to assemble them and see if I think I need one. Being a poors it's probably a moot point and just generally a bad idea all around, but I won't claim to be a brilliant man and I've got a bunch of the old Walmart 55gr value packs so I intend to turn a couple of them into noise when I get it assembled and the FRT working.

They were cheaper and far more cooling surface area than other designs. I used M4E1 enhanced uppers and handguards to make sure I had enough clearance. One is a 16" and the other is a 18", both rifle gas with the long JP heat sink. Heavy aluminum foil from a disposable pan makes a good shim. |
