Alright guys, I have a barrel blank that I need contoured and chambered. I'm looking for someone reputable that can do the job. Everyone I have talked to says they don't fool with gas guns and the one guy I did find wanted $850.

Have you tried ar15barrels.com?

I have a couple of friends that have been happy with their services, do a google search and then send them a note or give a call.

Adco doesn't offer chambering.  The OP has a blank that he needs totally worked on.

Not sure who to recommend, but that kind of work could easily run 500 or more.  You may be better off selling the blank and buying a barrel that fits yours needs.

Look for some of the barrel makers that buy the same brand blanks that you bought.  I would think Hart, Shilen, Krieger, Lilja, or the like that buy blanks from others could do the work like it was one of their own.  Hard part will probably be finding someone willing to take the time.  My money would be on one of the up-and-comers that don't have too much of a name yet though.

I would not and cannot recommend this.
He has built a bad reputation here and was banned as a direct result of poor business practices.

How good of a deal do you have to get on a blank to make this cost effective?

OP, you need a manufacturer, not a gunsmith..

Who made the blank? White Oak Precision will do it provided the blank is from a quality maker. They don't want to put their name on a junk brand.

Thanks for the info,

I do most of my own stuff, but I won't do it for others, but it was just a suggestion based on what a couple of buddies told me, glad you chimed in.

Go send an email to ADCO.

You do not need a "gunsmith", you need an AR15 custom barrelsmith.

AFAIK ADCO does not make barrels.

I'd suggest these folks:
http://compasslake.com/

Or:
http://www.whiteoakarmament.com/xcart/home.php?cat=250

the guy's price wasn't exactly unreasonable, I would generally charge around 600 to do one.

eta: that would include barrel blank cost and matched bolt.

custom profiles and chamberings aren't cheap

Yep, Compass Lake would be a good option. Their site says $125 to contour and chamber your blank here

Compass Lake and White Oak have a very close working relationship and they are both very good barrel smiths.  Either are very well-respected and work hard to maintain their reputation, which is deserved.

Neither has to advertise, word of mouth from National Match results with their barrels is more than enough to keep them knee-deep in work.

If it is for an AR and you have the bolt, barrel extension, and blank, the only person I would use is Thomas Pola at Paladin Machine Shop Service in Kershaw S.C.  TP555(at)windstream.net.
He does not have a web site because he does not need the extra business.  Word of mouth keeps this first class machinist as busy as he wants to be.  Prices are the cheapest I have found and the quality is the best I have seen. His turn around has never been more than two weeks even in the busiest of times.  He has done at least a dozen of my barrels and he is my 'go to' guy for when I need a blank turned for an AR or LR.

However, he does NOT work on barrels that require the registered receiver to fit the barrel to, like a R700, Ruger, Win... because he is retired and no longer has an FFL.  Therefore, he cannot work on 'firearms' any more.  He does things like AR, LR, and Savage barrels that do not need the 'firearm' in order to properly chamber and headspace the barrel.

Contact him and you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the replies, I ended up getting in touch with long rifles inc. they said they can turn the barrel down and chamber it. I know they are a reputable company and they said the turn around time would be 6-10 days. For the guys asking about the blank it is a hawk hill custom blank (6mm)
