Chop down your front sight base.

I have a carbine length gas system on a 16" barrel with the standard A frame front sight post.  I would like to make the rail system a mid length so i can have more room.  Is it possible to replace the front sight post with a low profile gas block and then simply put on the mid length rails?

I've had good luck with YHM low pros.

Vltor is good. So is YHM.  It all depends how much you want to spend.

Cheapest and most reliable way is to take a Dremel to your FSB to retain the solid taper pin mounting. If you must buy a low profile gas block look for an extended length version to cover the cuts in your barrel left from the taper pins. I like the extended Midwest Industries version because it has three set screws vs only two. The extra set screw is just a bonus in my opinion.
