Hi all,

Picked up a dang AR57 ar-15 lower. Didn't know the history. Is this gap acceptable between the upper and the lower at the rear pin? I haven't test fit it with an actual pin, but I've done my best to line up the holes.

See what it looks like with the pin in it.  Might tighten it down.  You won't really be able to judge until you do.

If it shoots, and it will, it's acceptable.

Looks to me like the radius cut for the receiver extension area is fucked up. I wouldn't accept that; but then I am not buying/needing a lower right now.

You need to see what the fit is like with the pin in there. I'm sure the gap will be tighter.

That's fine.

Both of my rifles have a gap like that between the upper and lower.

Should be fine, if it shoots its gtg.

Function-wise, IMO it'll be fine

But if it was me, my AR looking like that would bug the hell out of me and I would return it and have it exchanged.

Thank you all for the replies. My concern is (from reading those threads), if I return it ill just wait a moth and get another out of spec receiver. This is my first build, so my concern was that if it wasn't properly liked up the bolt may blow up the stock tube. I wasn't sure how much "tolerance" is ok there. If I pull the charge handle, will that simulate the action of the bolt?

yes.

More than likely you won't even be able to get the take down pin in, I did have some of the out of spec ones and was able to open the pivot holes up enough to mate properly to an upper using a drill bit and a diamond file.

I'd sell it and use the funds to buy 3 lowers later on lol

Tolerance stacking. It happens.

As said, that will not cause a malfunction.
