Just wanted to introduce myself!
I have been lurking this forum for years and finally decided to sign up. I was rasied in Michigan with gun powder in my veins...love to hunt and have always been a sporting shooter although I am just now looking to add an AR to the collection. I hate to ask a favor right out of the gate but is the below list an okay deal with less than 60 rounds down the pipe? MP-15 .223 comes with Magpul CTR Stock, Magpul Grip, Smith and Wesson flip rear sight, Smith and Wesson 4 rail, Magpul B.A.D Lever, 6-30 round mags, and case. $1000.00 Firm Looking forward to getting to know all of you! welcome to the site.
That is about $200 too much IMO. While i am a HUGE proponent of building your own... i recently saw a deal that isn't too bad. If that is your price range... i would check this out... MUCH better deal Palmetto S&W VTAC 1099.00 |

yeah...with all that i would say about $150-$200 too high. M&P's are good stuff, but for 1K you can get better just without all the accessories.

Check out these:
Spike's http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/complete-rifles-c-113.html Colt 6920 $1099 http://site.cdnninvestments.com/CDNN2010-6/index.html BCM http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Bravo-Company-Rifle-Carbine-M4-AR15-M16-s/140.htm Good luck with your choice. |

The only thing that kills me on the M&P and most other comsumer grade AR's is the 1 in 9 twist.
AR's are moving towards heavier bullets, and if the military adopts a 77gr round (and I think they will eventually), you're not going to be able to shoot it. I would give spikes a call and see what they can offer you for your budget, but $819 for a midlength with sights included is a hell of a deal, when you consider its tier 1 - just like Colt or BCM. |

Hi, I 'm a newbie to this forum also. The rifle I picked up is a CMMG Bargin Bin Rifle that I purchase from Black Rifle in my town. It is a Double Star lower and a CMMG Upper. The lower receiver has a Tapco 6 position stock and "SAW" type pistol grip with cover. The upper receiver is not marked as being made by CMMG but speaking with the guys from Black Rifle and CMMG Rep at a gun show, I have been assured it is a CMMG upper. The barrel is 18" with 1 in 7 twist and has been chromed. I had to purchased a rear sight and I believe it is a UTG type with elevation and windage controls. The whole package came out to be $772, tax included. The bore sighted by rear site in the store and when I took it out to the range to zero, it took about 15 rounds to do it. Unfortunately, the weather has not cooperated for me to return to shot more rounds but I feel very happy with my purchase.
So, I'd recommend a CMMG and Black Rifle in particular for the help they gave me. Just my 2 cents worth. |

Didn't see a reason to start a new newbie post so I'll put my intro on here as well. X-Military, living in Alabama, been surfing these pages for a long time as well and decided to register. My wife just asked me yesterday what I wanted for an anniversary present and I told her parts for an Ar-15. To my surprise she said why parts when she'd buy me a complete. Gotta love having a supporting wife like that.

I am sure I will be opening a can of worms here but I think that I will do an upper and lower build. Sounds like fun and within my minimal Smithing abilities. What would be a good mid length set up for HD and all around fun shooting? Looking to be no more than 1,000 with the ability to "grow" into it and customize as my needs/wants change over time.
I really like what I have seen and hear about Spikes so maybe this will be a bit easier if we stick their products. Let the debate begin! |

Buy a NiB (Nickel Boron/EXO) BCG for your build... long version of why i recommend these as the best upgrade you can do for your rifle is here Short version - Harder than phosphate Little to no lube required Easier Cleaning Runs in all conditions at anytime lubed or not regardless of weather/temp/whatever Less friction = less wear I think i recall recently that someone was saying that spikes was offering this as a $50 upgrade from standard on their BCG's if you buy an upper... but i can't remember the specifics. The most important parts of your rifle are the BCG and Barrel... everything else is secondary... remember that. |

I have spent and plan to spend more time in South Eastern Alaska and Michigan so maybe the extra protection will be worth it. I have never in my 35 years sold a firearm and don't plan on starting. I am selective when I buy knowing I plan on passing my firearms on to family. I never sell guns or classic cars peroid!
So maybe the extra $ is worth it...if it doesnt rocket me out of the target budget. |
