If you're a do it yourself kind of guy, you could try this:  Mini Y comp removal with step by step pics.

If not, you could send it to someone like Kurt's Kustom Firearms.  I hear he does very good work.

Is it permanently attached or just threaded on?

It can be done either way, but if it is permanently attached it requires a lot more work.

ADCO also does a fantastic job, much quicker turnaround than KKF, nothing against Kurt, he does good work, just not that fast. (Two weeks vs 3 months)

Is your barrel at least 16" w/o the Mini-Y?

Agreed.  I've also heard that Kurt is a little overworked.

IMHO, if you are going to replace the MB with a FH, get one that works at least. The MB you have is very good, loud as hell, but good. The A1 birdcage is a poor FH. Try a vortex or phantom.

If your barrel isn't at least 16 inches without the mini y you can not use an A1/A2 birdgage.

Not all but most barrels that have a mini y comp are permentaly attatched on a 14.5 inch barrel which brings the over all length to just over 16 inches.  If you have a 14.5 inch the A1 will not bring the overall barrel lentgh to the legal 16 inches.  You would need to get something at least the size of a Phantom FH to make it legal.  Unless it is an SBR.

If you already know all this I apologize,  I just don't want you to try and install an A1 on a 14.5 barrel and have an illegal weapon.
