hey guys, had my first FTF tonight..... Was at the local range having some fun on teh 200yd line, and fired a round, next one didn't feed. Look in the chamber and it looks like it just hung up a bit on the front of the mag. Pull the charging handle back and let go, no dice. Look close and it looks like i had inadvertantly loaded an empty casing, pull the charging handle and press the mag release and have my shooting buddy pull the mag. He pulls it, looks me in the eye and tells me how lucky i am. This is what was in the mag.... http://www.pbase.com/spirit03/image/37571838.jpg Left - Good Round, Middle - Round that jammed, Right - Empty case and after shaking all the powder out and pulling the bullet as far as it would go by hand.. http://www.pbase.com/spirit03/image/37571840.jpg Ammo was Black Hills 68gr Match. First time something like this has happened to me, some of you more experienced AR shooters may not think much of it but it has me a little bit shaken up. Just thought i'd pass the message. |
| The bullet getting reamed back into the cassing happened to me as well. But that was due to the very tip of the bullet catching just a hair below the barrel's feed ramp and not skipping up into the chamber. So when the bolt slams forward it just smacks the bullet into the casing. If it happens to you again, kep note which side of the magazine it happened to. Or better yet, take a look at your mag and see if the lips were dented any. I touched up my feed ramps so that I rounded out the edge just bellow the ramps so that rounds won't get caught at that flat spot anymore. see HERE for more info. Good mags in good repair are always best. But I like to be able to feed crap mags in disrepair.... |

'Twas Black Hills remanufactured stuff. Thats all our local store carries as far as BH ammo goes. Besides that lil incident though had a freat night at the range. Was particularly suprised by teh american eagle flat base HP's i bought... the 3 headshots and 2 centermass shots were all 50gr FBHP's. All of the shoulder shots were 68gr BTHP's aimed at the head http://www.pbase.com/spirit03/image/37571843.jpg and i guess i'd better give the obligatory shot of teh weapon.... http://www.pbase.com/spirit03/image/37571854.jpg |
No, this was the 40 round wal-mart stuff. Varmit pack, I think. The Q 3131A stuff is supposed to be good, I wouln't hesitate to buy that at all. |
