That's a big no no. Anything that's coming from the factory with a stock is a rifle and will always be a rifle (or sbr). Now if a lower comes as a pistol lower the rules don't apply the same way. You can still turn it into a sbr but it will never be a rifle. You can make it into a pistol with a stock and 16" barrel though and switch it back to a short barreled pistol with brace as many times as you want. Laws are stupid. Somewhat on topic. I was going to order a complete lower with pistol brace, but they were not available. I ordered the complete lower with magpul stock. Do you guys at PSA put this going out of your book as "other", "lower receiver" or "rifle lower", or ? I seem to see mixed results if I can pull the stock and add a brace and build it into a pistol first, before it ever has a 16" upper in place. No, I don't intend to write a letter;) My only concern is that it comes with a stock. If I can't build it into a pistol, I am fine with doing a carbine. I don't believe that's the case if it's just a lower. An unassembled lower isn't a gun until you put an upper on it. If I'm wrong someone will come along and correct it though. On the same principle I believe that should transfer as other since it's a receiver and require 21 to purchase it. |

This is exactly why it is clear as mud.
My main question was ro PSA qs to how they define a lower with a stock in their bound book (old school). Lower, receiver, other...... |

Dealers don't do "in" and "out" records anymore.
Back when I had my license we had to keep an "aquisition and disposition bound book" besides the 4473s. I am sure times have changed. Added...I misread your post a little. Asking them if they call an assembled lower as a "receiver", "rifle receiver", etc......other was incorrect for the book. You are correct. |
|
The records they keep haven't changed. The 4473's change but the process is the same as it has been for a while. The only exception being that the ATF allows electronic bound books.

I see the KS47 16" complete rifles have different hand guards on them now. Will you still get the other smooth top version back in stock? I ask becasue I have a 10" version and was thinking of getting a 2nd complete rifle for a parts backup and longer range, but id like the same hand guard as my 10"er. I took my 10" out and I noticed I cant get a QD sling to snap in on the hand guard becasue it hits the barrel...wasn't sure if you were phasing out the smooth top becasue of that.
TIA |

The pic rail that runs the full length of the top of the handguard? Shoot I may grab the older 16" style upper while you still have them if that is the case.

Got my lower today, upper is scheduled to arrive Friday...then it's off to the races...haha.
The lower looks real good. Nice black anodizing (you sometimes never know....not a fan of purplish brown parts. Two things, the buffer tube/receiver extension is screwed in just enough a sliver of material is holding the buffer retainer in. Bo big deal, I will screw it in another couple turns. The other thing is that I am not sure how I feel about the bulbous trigger guard. Depending on how far up your hand is in the grip...it may dig into your finger a bit. Not a real big deal, and I can surely het past that. Overall very happy with it ao far. Oh, the enhanced fcg is pretty darn nice for a standard single stage. Pretty darn smooth with a decent reset...bravo. |

Not a real big deal, and I can surely het past that. View Quote Here is what I did to make it work for me. I used a spare A2 grip screwed it to a 2x4 and milled the grip leaving only the top corner (2mm on top and 1mm in front) of the grip to use as a spacer. This can probably be done with a hacksaw or dremel in a vice and a steady hand. Then open the spring hole on the fabricated spacer and possibly on the grip you are using to leave space for the off set you will now have in the safety detend spring. I used a BCM grip and the front grip tab now meets the KS47 trigger guard perfectly. Sorry no pictures. |

Thanks for the info. I think I have warmed up to it now...at least when just handling it. Time will tell how it feels when firing.
Upper and other parts should be here tomorrow. |
|
Mine is done for now.
The sling swivel QD pocket in the handguard is useless, or all of my QD swivels have too long of a "nose"...it hits the barrel before it locks in. That isn't a real big deal for me as I will either add a rail mounted QD mount or buy a different handguard. Pleased thus far. Will test fire a few rounds tomorrow if we aren't in another blizzard. The Hard Charger required a little material removal as the exterior profile of the upper receiver is a bit different then a standard. Again, not a problem, this will be it's permanent home. Not sure if the MI blast can will stay on it, had it in the parts bin. Attached File Attached File |

Nice! Thanks for sharing pictures, looks like a sweet setup. Would love to hear your opinions on the hard charger after you get some more use out of it.

View Quote I actually have 2 other hard chargers on ARs. I like them, but still like standard style ones too. They do add width to the setup. The left side and somewhat forward position is nice. They also seem super strong. I will keep using the 3 I have, but probably won't buy more. They are a but pricey. I thought since there us no way to hold the bolt ooen on the KS47, that it may be a good fit. |

I'm pleased to report that via Josiah I was able to get my gen 1 uppers retrofitted to the gen 2 version with the anti-overinsertion tabs. Turn around time was 2 weeks.

How does it shoot? Reports of some issues kept me away from the Gen 1, but reviews I have seen of Gen 2 are good so I just pulled the trigger on a Gen 2 pistol. How are y'alls Gen 2's running? |

It's actually went through some changes. I will post some new pics soon.
I have only ran a handful more rounds through it. Winter has been very harsh here this year. It's getting nice now and the outdoor range that I go to opens tomorrow. I have a laundry list of gun related tasks to do this spring. If work permits, I will make my first range trip this week. I am very excited. |

I took a chance and got one of these a couple of weeks ago. I figured why not as I have AKs, boxes full of surplus mags, and a pretty good pile of 7.62x39. I got a pistol lower and an 8.5" upper separately which came out to under $500 with free shipping. It all looks great and I got it to the range yesterday. The first two mags were flawless and then the bottom dropped out - literally. On the third mag the mag itself started to drop from the lower. I put in a fourth mag and it did the same thing. I could run several rounds through and then the mag would drop. Reinsert, fire a few more rounds and it would drop again. Has anyone else reported this being a thing? Due to work I haven't had a chance to look everything over closely, but hopefully will be able to do so later today.

No issue with 3 of them.. Mine and 2 other friends.
You sure you mag was full clicked in? Maybe it isn't seating all the way in. |

Updated pic in current configuration. It is an angled front grip AND it measures over 26" to bare muzzle with brace extended....got that out of the way;)
With any luck this week will be the week to get out and shoot the hell out of it. Attached File |

Argh, having ejection problems with mine. I got the 8.5" pistol upper, and the KS-47 second gen lower.
https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-gen2-ks47-8-5-pistol-length-7-62x39-1-10-nitride-10-2a-armament-lightweight-m-lok-with-bcg-ch.html I only had Can't see any issues visually. Extractor looks OK, has a spring and O-ring installed. Gas key is staked and doesn't budge. Took the handguard off, the gas block doesn't appear to have shifted and looks like it's at 12:00 where it should be. Every time when it failed to extract, it was above the round attempting to feed with the empty case above it like the pic below of a double feed. Attached File |

How's the ejector look? It kinda looks like its extracting the round from the chamber, but not ejecting it. Then as the bolt closes, it picks up the new round while the old one still hasn't been tossed out. View Quote |

Ejector looks fine - seems it is a weak extractor spring. I pressed down on them with the end of a screwdriver, the one in question, a known good one with a 5.56 rifle, and two spares I had. Kinda hard to be certain, but it seemed weaker. Swapped the ejector spring then took it to the range again and blasted some mags through it - 3 full PMAGs in a row without a hiccup. Then another 30 with no extraction issues with a Chinese steel 30 rounder, but the mag kept falling out during firing.
Did it 3 or 4 times with the one mag, but no extraction or ejection issues. Then on the 5th mag, I got a case stuck. Mortared it but the extractor slipped off of the edge of the case. Not sure what to make of that, as afterwards when I got home I really had to beat it pretty hard with a cleaning rod to get it out. It looks like the polymer or lacquer did melt on it. I'll have to clean the chamber and make sure it's nice and smooth, not sure I can blame the rifle yet. It does kick a helluva lot more than a 5.56 AR. I usually shoot nose to charging handle. I learned not to with this, it drew blood on my nose. Kick honestly seems about the same as a SCAR 17s with the OEM (PWS) muzzle brake. Spares on the left, then one with the KS-47, then known good last on the right. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Got a chance to shoot mine more. Only sighted my holosun in at 25 yards, but at that distance..standing..I was doing baseball size 20rd groups. It is accurate for what I plan to do with it.
It ran 123 random steel case perfect. My heavier tulammo SPs were short stroking. Easy fix, I will just use a lighter buffer spring to shoot them up and switch back and only buy the more standard lighter ammo from here on. It's just a fun gun anyway. If the heavy SPs group amazing, I will just open the gas port a little. Very happy with it. |
