| I'm new.... like completely new... to the Larue line. A buddy of mine (whose opinion I respect) steered me to buy a 7.62 OBR, so I placed my order a few weeks ago. I searched this forum and the general reloading forum for loads specific to the 7.62 OBR. Can someone point me to a good 175 gr SMK load that works well for the 18" 7.62 OBR. I've been a boltgun guy for many years (.308, .223 and .300 wsm) and had success out to 1350 yards with 45.0 gr of Varget with the 175 gr SMK at 2.810". I didn't want to have to reinvent the wheel, so I was hoping one of you salted guys could point me to a proven load in the 7.62 OBR. |

coconut loaded me some for my 18" awhile back. We used Hornady Match Brass, 168grn SMK's, cci primers, and Varget. Worked up from 44.5 grains to 46.0 grains. We worked up in .5 grain increments. It really liked 45 grains the best with 45.5 being a very close second. But, here's a thread to help you out.

Lurk... what took you so long to find the OBR and the LaRue forum?... 6 post since 2007, #7 graciously replying to 33shooter.. (manners- seems you have them and will fit in well with the LaRue group!) Welcome to the LaRue goodness... your post count and wallet will both be affected!!! Thank you, sir. My focus for years with precision shooting has been with bolt guns. I tried several years ago to hone a M1A into having bolt gun accuracy, but never got it quite to that point. I guy I work with became sponsored by JP and won some competitions with their rifle. He knew I shot LR and tried to sell me on giving up the bolt guns and moving into the 21st century with a gas gun. I researched the topic, saw which gas guns were capable of < moa accuracy and started getting the funds together to make the jump. One of my best friends at my department bought a .223 JP rifle, so I went to his house to see it. We discussed my situation and he spoke of the superiority of the OBR in the .308 game. This is a guy I respect, who knows his craft, so that sealed the deal for me. Another buddy of mine pointed me to this Larue specific forum. He's a Larue addict that had to spread the virus, I guess. I've never bought any Larue products, so it's all new to me. I had joined this forum years ago, but mostly just read (as my post count reflects) . My plan is to take my OBR to 1350 yards with my hand loads. I've made it that far with my bolt guns and with what I've seen from people's posts with their OBR's, it shouldn't be a problem. I've done some intensive hand load development threads on other shooting forums, so I'll pass whatever I learn with my OBR onto the guys here. |
