The construction quality is exceptionally high, the materials are extremely well engineered, and the design is very practical for their intended uses. I wore Arcteryx pants exclusively for a very long time, and I am very pleased with my prototypes, which have been improved upon since I received them over a year ago. Both have their benefits and advantages, but they compare to one another very well. TL;DR...if you like the Bird you'll like these. 3. The pricing will be favorable to pants with similar construction quality and technology, the excellent value proposition of our products is a driving force at Magpul and remains so in our clothing line. The clothing team is very experienced, and we have decades of experience to leverage. 4. There will be some grey. 5. They aren't waterproof, but most of the pants are very water-friendly. Some of the versions use a 4-way stretch DriRelease fabric capable of drying in minutes from a full soak. The Bonnell pant/short in particular is extremely versatile, like your favorite khakis made of an extremely durable and comfortable board short material. You could wear them business casual or rock climbing and they'd be right at home. Prepare your closet...Spring is coming soon. |

What's the fit on these going to be like? I have very large quads (~29"), and the only pants that I can buy that fit are Kuhl. Under Armor's tactical pants get pretty close, but are still a little snug for my liking.
Are these made for skinny jeans wearers, or powerlifters? |

I'd love to hear more from Magpul about the sizing/cut.
Also, I think that Kuhl changed the seat cut in their newer offerings. A pair that I bought in September fits tighter than three pairs that were bought a few years ago. I'll wait to see what Magpul has to say about these before I go buy Arcteryx. Please don't be like Sitka gear who claims that their pants are cut for "athletes". I can't get them up over my thighs. |

Will any of the pants have "comfort fit" waistbands? I find these are great for IWB carry.

Those pants are not in our clothing line. They were made a very long time ago and never made it to a release. I believe they were a Schoeller 3xDry blend fabric, with a fuzzy inner waistband.
More info on the clothing line will be coming as we get closer to a release date, but I think everyone will be pleased. |

I will confirm that the pants shown here were made by Magpul as part of an original apparel test program for instructor wear about 6 years ago. We did an initial, very limited, production run of these and some shirts but decided we needed more experience in clothing production before these could be added to the line. The pants shown did have cool technical features built into the material for water and stain repellent but some of the patterning/seaming was an issue doing certain extreme movements. The pants shown were were probably an instructor test pant as they never released outside of the company. New pants set to be released this year are on a much higher level quality and performance wise. |

Let me see if I can get an idea on that part of the pants. We have a tendency for a more athletic cut to the shirts but the pants have more room. |

The struggle is real for us lifters, I either can't put pants on over my quads or it's so loose in the waist that I can slither out of them without unbuttoning. Combine that with a desire to buy quality, rugged, stylish hardware and I'm either spending out the nose or just wearing shorts all the goddam time. |

Still waiting here, too. Occasionally, it gets cold in Texas. I'd rather spend my money on some quality Magpul gear than go get something that's not going to do the job as well.
Unfortunately, it's been my experience that anyone who describes their clothing as "athletically cut", means it's meant for marathon runners. See my comments about Sitka, above. |

OK after checking here I do not think the current line of pants will big enough in the leg cross-section to accommodate the weight lifer segment here.
There is room in the pants but we are noticeably smaller than say the old standard 5.11 pants. Not saying we cannot make a special cut of one of the pants but the current versions due for release will probably not work. |
|
[#24]
What are the size and fit ranges? Standard US type sizing, or is it biased more towards smaller/thin types? Think US sizing compared to Japanese sizing.
Or an easier question, how do they compare to 5.11s in that respect? |

Bummer. I guess that I'll be looking elsewhere for my leg-covering needs. Slimmer than 5.11s? Wow. Do those fit too loose on most people?
Counting on finding dead birds new xFunctionals, then. |

Ya, I'm not a weight lifter and I wouldn't want slimmer than 5.11's. That's a bummer. The original 5.11s are very baggy. Most current utility pants (like those from Vertex, Arc'teryx and new design 5.11 brand) are all slimmer in the leg than original 5.11s. For all the clothing, we designed a custom fit block around a range of people with an athletic/fitness background, some with very stout legs. For weightlifters though we will look at the market and see if a special fit makes sense. |
|
[#31]
But seriously thank you for checking. If they fit like my Deadbird A2B, they'll probably be fine, my 5.11 pants do have an absurd amount of room in them, definitely more than I need. But my point is more that you checked at all, which I can't imagine any other company doing, thank you.

What year did that change happen, and how much looser were they? I tried on a pair my 5.11s that I still have, circa 2009 (probably), and I can't do a lunge or squat in them (36" waist), due to them binding in the seat and thighs. Can you compare it to BDU cut? I wear either a medium-long or large-long, depending on the manufacturer. The large longs fit the best.

I had a pair of those, back when I wore a 34" waist. They were too snug to be comfortable, from what I recall. Maybe I should just try stepping up to a 38" waist, and see if it fits better.
