| I've never watched this movie and was wondering, Good or Bad? |
|
Eleven Oscars, filmed in 2.76:1 65 mm widescreen, Charlton Heston.
What more could you ask for? Ben Hur - The Chariot race |
|
Ben Hur was the most expensive movie of its time. Among the better movies ever made.
Not too many of the orignal cast is alive today. Only Haya Harareet who played Judah's love interest Esther is still alive. I really like Hungarian-born Miklós Rózsa's sound track. |
|
Possibly the greatest film ever made...of what is the greatest story ever told.
It is a true epic. One of my favorite scenes involves what I consider to be the sweetest revenge EVER...and I'm not talking about the race...rather the scene in the baths several minutes earlier. One of my all time favorites. Buy it in HD widescreen. You won't be sorry. And who among us thinks that Haya Hareet was hawt? |

It's the top movie in my "List of Movies that one must see for one's life to be complete" |
|
One of my all time favorite movies to watch. An Easter tradition in my house too. Charlton Heston is great in the movie as is Stephen Boyd and Haya Harareet. Judah Ben-Hur: Almost at the moment He died, I heard Him say, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." Esther: Even then. Judah Ben-Hur: Even then. And I felt His voice take the sword out of my hand. |
| It's got one of the best 1st Christmas scenes of any spear and sandal epic I've ever seen . I should dig out my VCR copy and watch it again. I remember seeing it for the 1st time when I was a kid, even got the Marx playset version of it for Christmas. Good film! |
|
THANK YOU.The film was everything you all said it would be. I enjoyed the story and will be watching for it again.

Weren't there like 8 million horses who died in the making of that movie? a stuntman's death remains in the final cut. His wish was to be seen f something were to happen to him. Then he got trampled. http://www.snopes.com/movies/films/benhur.asp |

Quoted: What were your lady's thoughts of the film HardShell? She got back from the store later than planned (mostly because she had to go back and pick up some .410 shells for me, in fact |

The rumor that Stephen Boyd's double was killed during the chariot race is false. According to second-unit director Yakima Canutt, the "Messala" that was run over, a Roman soldier standing on the center island who was hit by a chariot and the driver of a spilled rig who jumped out of the way of one chariot but was immediately run over by another one were all articulated and weighted dummies (made with movable arm and leg joints), so when they were hit they "reacted" the way a normal human body would in that situation. A combination of adroit placement and expert editing made the dummies look like real people being run over.

As usual, the book, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ by Lew Wallace, is better than the movie.
A few months ago I was reading the book during downtime at work and a few of my co-workers had never even heard of the movie. |

Excellent movie. Nice avatar. Thanks. It looks like I fotochopped a B1B onto a lake but its a real pic. Tried changing colors and contrasts with no results. It is actually a http://www.drublair.com/ painting! |

Quoted: I've never watched this movie and was wondering, Good or Bad? Second-best movie ever made, second only to LOTR - Return of the King. The Oscar count proves it. Ben-Hur is one of my all-time favorites, and has a soundtrack that I can say the same about. I assume, of course, that we're discussing the Charleton Heston version... |

Quoted: Anyone else think of the F-111 attack on the Elbe River bridges in RED STORM RISING when they saw this? http://www.drublair.com/comersus/store/catalog/pr_timin.jpg TRUMPETER! TRUMPETER! TRUMPETER! Can you imagine if they made THAT into a good movie? |
|
One of the greatest movies of all time...........I rank it up there with "The Greatest Story ever Told" and "The Ten Commandments"...........Hollywood made lots of good movies back then, and it's too bad that epics such as this arent made today with frequency, but monetary issues would kill them
And yes, Haya Harareet was smoking, as was the un-named girl who was Judah Ben-Hur's girlfriend in Rome |
