I was at a gun show, looking at a table full of knives, and I asked the guy if he had a Columbia River model M16-01F Carbon Fiber folder.

He looks me in the eye and says, "No, they're not making it anymore. The little fibers can come out of the handle, get imbedded in your skin and KILL YOU."

Me: "Uhh..OK. Thanks."

This has got to set a new record for Gun Show bullshit. [%|]

Yeah Carbon Kills. Were carbon based life forms after all.

Is the knife coated in teflon by any chance?  If so, the fibers cutting you and letting in the teflon could kill you.  Teflon is toxic.  Don't use an old scratched up teflon pan that some idiot used a metal spatula on either.  It can make you very sick or worse if you eat it.  Oh, and don't drink any teflon based CLPs either.[xx(][;D]

Must be a really crappy grade of carbon fiber [:D] that Taiwanese stuff.  (No offense to any one from Taiwan, that is where the knife is made)

I've never heard of carbon fiber splinters killing any one.  I worked for a little while in a composites development lab after school, and people were always getting splinters.  The tough thing about them was they didn't provoke a festering response, so the only way to get them out was to cut them out.  Luckily, we had one engineer that was pretty handy with a razor blade and needle.

I know a woman who got splinters in her hand from a carbon graphite golf club that shattered. They didn't get all the splinters out. That was two years ago. She just had the 7th surgery on her hand. Infections, tendon and nerve damage...

Plain carbon fiber won't kill you, but it hurts like hell if you get stuck with a fiber or a splinter.  The fractured ends are sharp and the fibers drive themselves deeper into your fingers or hands unless you dig them out immediately.

Silicon carbide fibers are about 1000 times more painful (they are very large diameter).

Exacto knives with a fresh blade are the preferred tool.  You do use new blades to avoid blood born disease, don't you?

Nah, pressure treated lumber splinters are worse.  Festering green infection will turn even the most hardened stomach.
