Islamist has been the accepted term for a praticioner/advocate of political Islam since the late 1800s. If you were to use the term Islamofacist in any sort of a serious discussion of Islamic extremism, you would find yourself labeled as a rube. It's a buzzword, a t-shirt slogan. The term is inaccurate and displays that the user of this term does not understand the multitude of Islamist groups out there, nor their belief systems. Grouping radical Sunni's in the same ideological column with radical Shi'as is just goofy. |

No doubt, but even applied to the insurgents/terrorists, it is still an innaccurate statement. I just hate buzzwords and propaganda slang (demoncrats, rethuglicans, hitlerly, bushitler, and so on) I think they are sophmoric, and distract people from what is really going on. The form of Islam preached by different radicals has almost nothing in common with facism, in the strict sense of the word. If you wish to call their belief system an Islamic Theocacy, by all means do so. That would be far preferable to "Islamofacism" |
Nothing to do with being PC, everything to do with the foolishness of discarding accuracy in favor of a "cool" term. Correctly understanding the Islamist belief systems (there are many) will aid us in crushing their cause. |

Relax max, he started a thread with a certian topic in mind, anything else is technically a thread highjack, and name calling will only get you banned. I don't always agree with thedoctors.308, but I can atleast have a civilized debate with him with out resorting to personal attacks. |

What you say is true. But I still like the term. Mainly because it accurately describes their motivations. The Bin Laden types are not religious except in its use to further their own power. They are political animals not religious ones. There are exceptions but for the most part it is true. It doesn't mean they are all on the same page or working together any more than 1930-40's fascists were. |

While I'd prefer to stay out of the obvious pissing match that appears to be the sub-text here, and that I have no knowledge of, I have to agree. It's a stupid, inaccurate, and misleading piece of propaganda. Islamic extremism is perfectly adequate and the only reason the term "Islamofascist" exists is because the Bush administration thought it would help reinforce the "Iraq=WWII" talking point. Fascism means something specific and Islamism isn't compatable with it, whenever anyone uses the term I tend to take them less seriously. |
