This week's Shotgun News has a Big-Assed color review/test of the PS90, written by David Fortier. He really liked the weapon-everything but the sight. Didn't stop him from posting a 1-3/8" group at 100 with it though..

the dark/transparent plastic box along the top of the gun is the mag. |
Sorry, no cam at the range. I really should get a pic of the mag filled with red tipped ss196, it's enough to make gun grabbers wet themselves! |
Looks like a smaller version of a Steyr AUG...they take down the same way into the same components (receiver with optics, trigger group out the rear of the stock, buttstock plate comes off...main difference is that the AUG's barrel is also removeable ) Hmm...now I need to save up the scratch for one... |
ME too! My pee-pee go tingle when i see this. Whoa, my pee-pee go stale like bread! This normal? |
It makes me feel kinda funny, Like when we used to climb the rope in gym class
The barrel is removeable when you unscrew the barrel shroud.
I've never handled an AUG before but I saw a pic of its hammer group and you are correct - it's a dead ringer. The AUG was out way before the P90 was being developed |
No it doesn't. He either bought it himself or his dealer included it. I didn't get a free box of ammo with mine... |
IMHO that is still, by far, the fugliest weapon I have ever seen
any plans for a 5.56 version? this is really a great gun: you get irons, red dot, compact size all for $1200+. good deal IMHO.
5.7x28 is why i dont own one one yet. if it was 5.56, id have one. |
I really wanna take one apart to see how the spinny ammo feed do hickey works!
A 5.56mm version would be great, but they would have to basically make a new gun for it. It would be a bit wider than the P90, but I think it would still be viable compact weapon. |
and how exactly would you suggest they fit 5.56x45mm in to where 5.7x28 goes......? |
The rounds are stripped from the mag facing in the normal direction. The rounds are simply pushed through the mag down a curved ramp that spins them 90 degrees. I don't know if the mag spring/follow push all the way into and around the ramp, or if there is some other mechansm that pushes the last few rounds down the ramp. |
make it bigger. 17mm bigger. |
Thers no moving parts. the only moving part in the mag is the follower and spring. Its kind of like a swhirl side at McD's. |
I think it would be a winner. Now where's my SG1 costume... Oh, and for Chrissakes! Dye the stocks black! |
How does the last round or two get pushed down the curved ramp? Does the spring and follower acctually move into the ramp? |
Metroplex, can you elaborate on the reflex sight? How does it suck?
Ah, rollers I couldn't figure how the last rounds would get pushed...but if they are acctually fake then it doesn't matter. Makes sense now.
Yep! There are 2 rollers. When the mag is empty, you will see one of them. The other is rotated 90 degree behind it. As you load cartridges, the rollers get pushed down and are treated as cartridges. The reflex sight sucks in the same way the Trijicon Reflex fails. The daylight reticle is a white circle with a smaller white circle in the center. Unless you have a lot of light (i.e. broad daylight) it won't appear clear or sharp. The worst part is that it washes out when you aim at bright/light surfaces: snow, fog, clouds, the sky, white buildings, white snow camo, desert terrain at noon, etc... At night, the Tritium glows so dimly that unless it is totally pitch dark, it won't appear sharp and clear. You can get a hint it is there if your eyes are adjusted to the darkness. For a realistic scenario: Imagine a SWAT team officer following a suspect on foot in broad daylight. He tracks the suspect into a dark building. The reflex sight now pretty much shows "nothing" to the officer as he transitions from the bright outdoors into a dimly lit or dark building. After a few minutes his eyes will adjust to the darkness and maybe pick up the dim red/orange tritium-enhanced open "T" reticle... I think the reflex sight sucks for any type of tactical work - Houston PD came to the same conclusion. For range use, the reflex sight is MARGINALLY acceptable. By marginal, I mean you have to shoot it in broad daylight with brown paper targets. Had Ring Sights made the reticle dark red or dark green, it would have been much better. They should have used 2 or more Trijicon tritium modules for maximum night lighting, and implemented a battery powered light as a 3rd source of light. I have a gut feeling FN dumped the reflex sight on the PS90 because they had a surplus of these sights from slow P90 sales. The only reason the pics of the reticles showed up so clearly was because I stuck a flashlight right in front of the fiber optic collectors. |

LoL, why post PRON when you guys will do it for me? Funny thing is that the thread didn't get any hits until I changed the title from PS90 PRON to P90 PRON,......
Maybe we should change AR15.com to M16.com? Dave |
So you'd want a 22.7 mm assualt rifle? Wow,I think I'd be happy with a 50 BMG AR. |
He meant length as in 28mm + 17mm = 45mm. |
All I can say is: Where do I buy one? DD right? |
That's one ugly piece of shit, that looks like a hell of a lot of fun to shoot and a hell of a lot of NOT fun to lug around. |
Is FN offering the PS90 without the reflex sight or can you at least replace it with a standard rail? I'd stick an EOTech on it.
The whole upper sight assembly can be removed and replaces with something FN calls the Triple Rail. Best picture I have of it is an airsoft gun, but it illustrates it well. In this pic the original airsoft 'reflex' site is removed and replaced with the airsoft triple rail. Ignore battery and charger. |

So far it's only offered with the reflex sight. Tell ya what, buy a PS90 and when the triple rail becomes more available purchase one. Then turn around and sell your reflex sight on an airsoft site for twice it's actual worth by advertising it as 'REAL STEEL'. |
