| Is this gun any good? It's been a while since I bought a gun. What prices do they run and are aftermarket parts easy to come by? How accurate are they (compared to the AR-15)? |
|
FN FAL:Right Arm of the Free World, the firearm has great history and was used in Many battles across the World it's still in use.I might suggest a DSArms STG58 for the money spent mine are fine firearms the accuracey is of a 'Light Battle Rifle' but none the less so Enjoyable |
Don't go "cheap", spend the money and get something you can be proud of. You don't have to dump a lot to get a good FAL. Say $750-$1200, depending on what you "need". AB |
And those 90+ other NATO/UN/Non WARSAW nations with exception to Taiwan must've been delusional too right? All the proof one really needs is the fact that it was a mechanized firearm that even the Brits could make. |
Nice! |
And in case anyone is wondering I cannot get one to out perform the other in a side by side. The only difference is finish (the SA58 is nicer). So unless you want a pretty gun, the Stg58 is the "best buy." |

From what ive read their is of alot rubbish l1a1's and such mixed to shit in the US (century), in NZ dont get any of that. Guess decent one cost more too I have a Aussy L1A1, Ex NZ army. They go for around 500-600 USD here in NZ my L1A1 does 3" grouping at 100m. I like the feel of them more than the M1A having a pistol grip and they have the adjustable gas system which is good too. |
|
The FAL is the most affordable .308 battle rifle you're going to find (in terms of kits), and is fairly easy to assemble when compared with it's other contemporaries... It's no AR-10, but then again you can't get an AR-10 for $400-500 I just got one myself... Will see how it shoots Friday... |
Century did some odd stuff with their rifles, mixing metric & inch parts, and calling it a 'L1A1'... The end product was a true 'franken-FAL', with a metric reciever (Imbel), an inch lower, and in some cases an inch upper-parts kit as well... |
|
I would strongly encourage anyone interested in a FAL to buy a DSA. If you buy CAI, HESSE, etc. you will simply end up selling it at a loss so you can get a DSA. It is true you can build a decent one yourself with a good receiver (Imbel, DSA, etc.) and a Steyr kit but for the money you save you won't have a DSA warranty and I don't think that the savings. The only real reason to build one is if you really know how to do it and enjoy it. |
What rock you two been under?? What kind of aftermarket support are you seeking? DSA, makes railed handguards so you bling bling lovers can hand your aftermarket wizzbang shit off of it. Crapco used to make junk for it. |
sar·casm ( P ) Pronunciation Key (särkzm) n. 1. A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound. 2. A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule. 3. The use of sarcasm. See Synonyms at wit1. |
"Good" and "cheap" don't go together... Get a DSA FAL... |
| SAR-48 (Imbel) owner here. A well built FAL will serve you well. Mine is consistently prints right at 2-2.5 MOA but you have to overcome the hard trigger. The rifle is very simple, rugged, and easily maintained. Spare parts are easy to find as well. Of all the mags I have, to never paid more than $10 for any and those were some NIW ones I bought but could have found cheaper. Most of my mags are used and gave around $5 each for them. |

The M1A is a fine rifle. Among the best .308 battle rifle copies out there. The FAL is a better all-around rifle, IMO. Praising the FAL does not equal denigrating the M1A. |
Agreed. It's better. |
