My FAL came to work with me one day because it was lonely.

Neither of my FAL's came to work today but a M1 Garand and my AK47 did!

May I suggest heading over to www.falfiles.com to get the real poop?

I love how cheap (metric) mags are.... awhile back I bought a box of FN Herstal mags NIW the original 50s era wrap in the original plastic sealed box for $100 (or $10 a pop). I wish I had bought a couple more boxes when I had the chance.

You seriously need to get a FAL! Mags are cheap, and the rifle is stone cold reliable. Here's my Israeli. I like it a lot.

My CAI L1A1, it has been very reliable. Guess I must have gotten one cobbled together on a "good" day.......

If you get a Century that runs it will keep running.
There are just to many of them that don't.

Where do you find the Israeli ones?  I have never seen one for sale.

Heck, there was an HBAR Israeli FAL at the last show for sale. good wood and decent shape. However he wanted $1200 for it tho he hinted he would take less.

One of the finest rifles I own, an FN 50.00 built into a Para.

I even sell decals to go along with your FALs.

Get them and others here: LINK

Ok. I'm done man whoring. To keep it on topic, the FAL is one of the only rifles I ever regret selling.

If you're going to get the DSA STG-58, you better get it within a year or so.  They bought parts buy the ton from Steyre many moons ago and I have read that their supply is dwindling.  It won't be too long before DSA is making the entire rifle in the USA, which is good, but expensive.

The FAL is a great rifle, with a well deserved reputation for reliability.

That said, I seem to be the only person on the face of the planet that finds it to be the most uncomfortable and ergonomically unfriendly battle/assualt rifle in the world. Then again it seems I'm one of about six people in the world that really like the ergonomic of the H&K G3 (right down to the charging handle location!).

My one piece of advice:
try one out before you buy. I'm glad I did.

Looks like mine, except for the handle. The 50.63's didn't have them. Yours a 50.64?

The right arm of the free world is obviously the AK, not the FAL. The AK isn't a bad rifle, but it uses REALLY expensive ammo, and are pretty damned finicky with the whole cleaning/maintenance thing.

P.S. In the future, you may want to read the whole thread before posting.

You arent the only one. I think the FAL feels horrid, is tooo heavy and long, and they arent that accurate. I respect them, but I cannot get into them whatsoever. I find the M1/M1A fits me much better.

I think it's a 50.64. However, I'm not really up on all the FAL id code.

It's a folder w/ a standard length barrel, grenade launching flash hider, "L" flip (2 position) rear sight and steel lower receiver.

Get a DSA-built STG58. (Austrain STG-FAL built on a DSA receiver). Around $900, durable as all hell, and it'll digest even the cruddiest milsurp ammo all day long.

DSA's SA-58's are painfully pricey, and notoriously picky about ammo. I used to own one, so I speak from experience.

If you want to spend more, get a FAL built by one of the FAL-gods: CGW, AZEX or ARS-Gumplumber.

I have a DSA built carbine, a Para built by CGW and an Izzy Heavy Barrel built by ARS. All are beautiful firearms.

Get a FAL!

- Enough accuracy for most any uses: self defense, hunting and plinking. Much better than an AK.

- Very reliable in all but the worst conditions and if in poor conditions it's quick and easy to clean.

- Easy to work on if something breaks or you want to make some changes. Try changing a firing    pin on a M1A or HK91 at the range or in the field with almost no tools. Easy to do with the FAL.

- Parts and magazines are easy to get and somewhat inexpensive.

- Can mount a scope without too much trouble.

- Soft recoil for a .308.

- Classic design used all over the world for years with great success. Still in use in some places.

- I still love M1A's too but the FAL just fits me and my needs better. I've had some of each type as well as HK's. So now I'm just going to concentrate on AR's and FAL's.

- AR15 shorty for 5.56 and FN FAL for 7.62NATO. That's what I like.

If you can afford it get a real FN Belgian. DSAs are the next best thing.

If I was "bugging out" indefinitely, my STG-58 would be the rifle that would go with me.

I like the ergos over the g3, and the reliability over the M1A.

man, i am drooling on the keyboard!   love the FAL.

i purchased an L1A1 built on an Entreprise receiver.  it has run like a clock on whatever i can feed it.

its accurate enough, approx 2.5" at 100 yds off the bench.  i have mostly inch pattern mags - they are relatively expensive but i recently got 5 metrics from a friend and will try them out tomorrow.

i like the .308 and the ease of maintenance on the FAL as well.
