Anybody here have a POF gas piston upper? Ifso how do you like it? Should I get it one? Or save my pennies for the XCR? |

btt I too have also heard alot of praise for the POF upper. It has everything you could want, chrome lined barrel, 1/7 or 1/8 twist, threaded muzzle, bayonet lug, m4 feed ramps, and the list goes on. Are they for sale anywhere else other than the POF site? $850 will hurt my wallet. Anybody else? |

There's a big thread on this in the AR15 section here. I'm considering one for a suppressed SBR build. |
|
I've considered them, but every last one of my AR rifles function just fine without a gas piston. I'm taking kind of a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach, here. To me, it's just extra parts and expense to fix a problem that doesn't exist (at least in my rifles, anyway). I suppose something could be said about keeping carbon out of the action, but in all honesty, cleaning my rifles is pretty trivial. I guess I just don't see the point in changing a design that seems to work just fine. |
That's kind of the thing that has held me back on them. The only big reason why I considered one in the first place is because I was planning on using a suppressor with mine. I've heard that the gas piston reduces fouling in the action when using a suppressor and thus makes it more reliable. However, I wonder if the gas piston system will just get fouled up instead? Besides, I clean my rifles pretty well anyway. I'd imagine it would reduce gas blowback into your face though. I hear that can be bad even with the PRI gasbuster on a suppressed SBR. I don't know enough about it to have formed a conclusion myself and I've asked around about it in the M16 forum, but I didn't get much feedback. At least not enough to spend the money yet. |
