| I'm 34, no kids, been married eight years. My wife and I don't want kids...EVER. I am considering getting snipped, but I am rather squeamish about needles and blades near my nutsack. Is there more than one type of procedure to have this done, one less....invasive, so to speak? If it involves a needle in my sac I'm probably not interested...unless they're gonna put me out first. Does anyone do that? |
+1 - No big deal, but USE THE ICE! ETA: As young as you are, I'd wait. I said I'd never have kids and now I have two. I wouldn't have it any other way. Kids are awsome! I got snipped two weeks after my second child was born. |
+2. Didn't feel the local, felt some slight tugging during and it hurt to the point of not wanting to do anything but sit around for maybe a day. After that, I was up and around doing light work (IE; not lifting anything heavy) for about a week. |

Mine was no problem at all. From talking to my friends and seeing the subject here I think your odds are 50/50 that (A) You'll have no problem at all or (B) They will swell up like basketballs and hurt like Hell. Mine felt sore at the most but you sure couldn't call it pain.I didn't swell up at all. |

Ask your doc if he is going to cloterize the ends after he ties the knots. Not a smell I want to be around again. If he does put some vics under your nose. I didn't have any pain until after the local wore off and the swelling to the size or grapefruits ensued. ICE, ICE, baby. Two days later I was GTG but took it easy for two weeks. |
| Actually the doctor will be the one feeling the small prick. It's absolutely no big deal. Take the valum the give you before hand. During the procedure you "MUST" talk with the doctor about football or some other manly thing, hunting, guns, etc. When its all done take your meds, chill on the couch for a couple of days and you're all good. |

Had mine done 3 months ago. Felt minimal pain. Going to the dentist is far worse. No bad swelling or anything. Of course, I took it easy the first couple of days. Being afraid of the "horrible experience" kept me away from making an appointment last year. I was afraid of what turned out to be nothing. I REALLY wish I had it done last year. Now my wife and I will have our third child next month... |
My HMO gave me a do-it-yourself kit; a styrofoam coffee cup and a firecracker.![]() No seriously, I was just about to do it about 10 years ago when our son was born but the wifey had to have surgery anyway so they just tied her tubes off while they were in there anyway. (whew!...) |
Had mine 2 years ago. I'm one of the guys who didn't have that great of an experience. I got "congestion" and was literally walking bowlegged for 2 and a half months, wearing a jock and 2 pairs of underwear so I wouldn't be in agonizing pain when my balls moved around. For a few months after that I would get either throbbing pain, on one or both sides, or sharp stabbing pain like someone kicked me in the balls. That eventually resolved itself. The pain when I ejaculated took about a year to go away. I'd say I'm about 90-95% o.k. now, just a little discomfort and mild pain now and then. The doc who did the vasectomy was worthless on the complications, I went to a second doc who was up front about the fact that for about 1 in 10 guys it takes longer than a weekend with ice on your balls to recover. The second doc said he does all his vasectomies with the patient under sedation. For the vast majority of guys it's a simple procedure. If I had to do it over again, I'd do a no-scalpel vasectomy, under sedation. That seems to be the best way of doing it. Good luck! |

had mine done about 3 yrs ago. best decision I've made. We were done having kids, and we both have a very healthy sex drive....if condoms are marketed as effective 97% of the time, it was just a matter of time before we had another happy accident. We didn't want to play 'russian roulette' with live ammo anymore...much safer when using blanks. The procedure took less than 20 minutes, with a local. No pain to speak of (I've caused much more pain by catching myself in my zipper) and I went back to work the same day---didn't stay at work--used the vasectomy as an excuse....but I was on the riding mower that evening. Our sex life has always been great, but it improved dramatically because neither of us worry about unexpected pregnancies anymore. No more frantic searching in a dark bedroom for contraceptives, or dangerous late night, high-speed runs to the drugstore. Going bareback feels best, no hormone-imbalancing chemicals. If you're ABSOLUTELY SURE you don't want kids, I say go for it! |

Easiest medical procedure I ever had done. From when I parked my car, to when I got back in and drove home - took a total of 45 minutes. Other than the phone call to set up the appointment, that was all the time it took me. I had no swelling, no pain whatsoever following the procedure - but did ice it with a bag of frozen corn. (Which my fiancee then insisted we throw away! WTF? Perfectly good food - it was still in the sealed plastic bag. Women are weird.) About a week later, I did get a very mild infection - just some dull pain and a little swelling - but went away in a few days with a course of antibiotics. All in all, incredibly easy. Plus, insurance companies LOVE paying for it, since kids are so expensive for them - so the only cost was the $15 co-pay. |
+1 (Incuding infection , I used peas and had to throw them out) Except for the time it took. My doctor overbooked or had some emergerncy or something and I had to wait a couple hours before I got out of the waiting room. Of course by then my valium had worn off and I was pissed. If I hadn't been using a very valuable vacation day and scheduled my out of town parents to watch the kids I would have walked out. To top it off the valium he prescribed was the smallest available... I've gotten more relaxation out of one Kettle One Martini. Kent |
