42 years in northeast GA.  It’s not the same as when I grew up there.  Everyone loves to visit, everyone gets tired of all the visitors.

Have a great time, say hello to Arenal for me if you get up there.

Spiders drop down from the ceiling mostly ,sometimes from a web….. just saying. You’re probably more apt to get cuddles from a snake on the lower cot. Nowhere’s safe….

I love the Arenal area, been there twice.  We’re near Buenos Aires right now.  Heading south east into the mountains tomorrow, Boruca people after that, then heading towards the Osa peninsula.

Just remember, and take it from someone who's been in-country a bit, that when the revolution comes, and it will, foreigners are the first ones killed.  Just saying.

Dude!  Those islands know how to chicken.  For me the best chicken I have ever had was in the DR.  I could not stop eating it for the whole week I was there for.

I haven’t got a pic of the ride yet, it’s gray and right hand drive.  5 speed with a real Tcase!

Here she is from the cabin, full zoom

Staying in the same cabin tonight.  We drove 2 hours (1 full hour required 4x4) to see the chapel in the clouds.  Damn place was closed….  It was ok though, the drive was beautiful.  Being above the clouds, giving the little Jimney all she could handle in four wheel drive was awesome.

We stopped and got some pizza and a few imperials on the way back and now we’re chillin.  Time for a cigar and relax!

In the AM we’ll head out after a typical breakfast for the Boruca People.  I hope to get a cool mask just because.  Then we’ll head for Palmer Norte to our next stay.  It will be less impressive, it’s kinda modern.

For those that have never gone there, you’re missing out. Great country with mostly great people. Like anywhere, they have crime, corruption and typical BS Latin-American stuff but it’s closer to the US in culture than you know.

Being an ex-pat down there in the right area would be better than a lot of the US. You can own certain guns and as long as you’re not doing shady shit, you’re left alone.

Be very cautious about buying.  Crazy neighbors, difficulty selling.  Being on vacation and living day to day in a tropical vacation area can be a very different experience.  I would rent for a few years before even considering buying.  That road you took to paradise?  Might be a raging river a few months every wet season.  Like getting eaten alive by insects from mars and attacked by monkeys?  How far to the nearest doctor or car mechanic?

And yeah, CR has great food.  Those women can cook anything.

Visited the Boruca people today on our way to Palmar Norte.  Our Spanish isn’t great so we really didn’t get a great experience in their town.  We probably shoulda got a guide.  On the way out we stopped at a local artisan’s shop and although we had the same language barrier he was awesome and with the help of a little google translate we heard the whole story about their carved masks.  He let me try one on that had been used in a festival, then I bought a wall hanger.

He told me he’d sell me the one that was used in the festival but I knew customs would screw me over with all the feathers all over it.
